This is one for the ladies and their "lunar" cycles
This may be a bit off topic, but as an employment lawyer, I was fascinated to read this article about a recent legal precedent in South Korea. What do you think?
South Korean court orders menstruation pay
Published: May 4, 2007 at 2:44 PM
South Korea's high court has upheld a ruling ordering Citibank Korea Inc., to pay menstruation leave allowances to former and current women employees.
The women filed suit against the bank after it refused to pay the allowances for two years, the Korea Times reports.
"It was mandatory for the bank to pay allowances for period leave based on regular pay to the defendants in accordance with the regulations of the Labor Standard Law," the lower court ruled.
It ordered Citibank Korea to pay $1,559 to each of the 1,298 former and current employees named in the suit.

Yeah, my thought is that we blokes suffer as well during that period (so to speak)...perhaps we should be entitled to compassionate leave?!!

A very wise lady told me years ago that if men had to put up with what women do without complaint they (the men ) would be showering each other with medals!

Rod a very interesting report.
I feel the decision reasonable irrespectve of the court possibly breaking new ground.
It seems so counter productive not to take into account the realities of life.
The ladies have such a difficult role generally being expected to live in a modern world with demands on productivity yet denied in so many cases recognition of their day to day realities.
Thanks for posting that information it makes one feel there is hope for decency and justice.

if the ladies have it so bad, how come statistically they live and are healthier much longer on averages, than males?
guess they dont have so much of that life-shortening, troublemaking, hormone, testorone to deal with?
hey we get gored and eaten by the megabeasts while out hunting dont we?

Females are the species really.
The male is somewhat irrelevent other than to provide for the female and ensure offspring are therefore taken care of... which is finally what it is all about.
AND Kearn maybe why they live longer etc is they dont have the tendancy to abuse their bodies the way many males do.
When younger I put my life at risk each week for thrills and simply lucky my number did not come up during that period of stupidity.
Many of the things I did when young are now causing me grief.. things that will no doubt lessen my life expectancy.. things that really had no meaning other than to pander to my ego... sport for example has its good points but at the competative levels required for sucess these days many sports will detract from a trouble free life later. Injuries will heal but in later life they come back to haunt you and make it more difficult to manage existence.
Also they, although reliant in many respects upon males, they seem to be able to exist better with out males than males can without females.

it's all true and spot on Alex but how much that risk taking behaviour and stupidity/ego/competitiveness is directly atributable to a testorone/wiring/hormones? so do we not also deserve pity/sympathy/time off? for our wretched chemical balances also
I read once that all humans are on cycles of one sort or another, even males?
possibly i should get out of this thread while i'm still one piece? or is this just male risk taking at play? oh the folly! who am i kidding i'm probably on a hiding to nothing lol

They get paid for having their period? Pfft. But if they are stupid enough to dole out the cash, I'll stand in line with my greedy little hands out.
What I find so facinating about females is that when a group of women live together for more than a few weeks, their cycles become synchronous.
We're amazing creatures aren't we?
LOL a comedian recently made the observation that an Army battalion of women with synchronised cycles would make the ultimate weapon. Wait for PMT and send them out to face down any enemy.
