Thats a good point. Maybe we should take a pole on the subject and see how many people are actually interested it the book. If we have enough interest maybe we could contact the publishing house and see if they will do a reprint.

Maybe it is even something that could be done through ICEInSpace.

Whacha think

Rob as much as we all appreciate your very "generous" offer
I am going to have to pass on it.

I wasn't supposed to say anything until this was all done and dusted but apparently my very dedicated girlfriend Joy has done a LOT of searching via the net and she has found a 2nd hand copy of the David Malin, et al, updated edition (book and dust jacket both in Very Good condition) for sale in ........ Toronto, Canada!!

(I guess they have pretty limited views of Southern Skies from there )

She has received 2 emails now from the vendor, the first advising that her order has been processed ... and the second confirming that the book has been packaged and posted. Quoted delivery approx 30th April (not including customs delays, if any).

2 lessons in this:

First, persistance pays off.

Second, she's a very good girl, and will need to be rewarded with lots of chocolates, etc.

There is one down side : I'm Damned if I know what I can do for her birthday present in return that can possibly top this effort!

Quick update : it appears that there is a registered package awaiting collection by Joy at her local post office. She assures me that there is only one object that she has purchased "online" and is expecting delivery of.

I'm still not sure whether she will actually give me the book now, or make me wait until my birthday which is nearly 3 months away.

Well you just never know what you find at book sales.

I have seen the thread title but never looked into this thread until just now. Keep you eyes open guys because they are still around. I went to the University of Queensland book sale today and while browsing throught th physics and astronomy piles, picked up a reprint of the 1st edition in fantastic condition, with hard plastic cover (library covering ) so it wont get damp outside for the princely sum of ...........

$1.50

If its not in print I believe it is legal to photocopy it. Have to check this.

I don't think so. Copyright expires 50 years after the creators death. In the case of the original Hartung, you will have to wait until 2029.
