Talking Double transit and the seeing is great!

Well i've been lucky again..

Been out here for an hour so far, have 11 avi's under my belt already and it's only 4:30am!

Europa and Ganymede are just transiting across Jupiter right now, and in an hour or so, Io will come out from behind Jupiter. The GRS is also about to begin it's transit!

The seeing is excellent - by eyeball so far it looks as good as last Thursday when I captured the Io transit and got my best image ever.

I don't know if I have enough disk space for this morning! There's going to be days of processing, and another animation too I imagine.

I'm happy to accept all this bad weather we've been having if it means seeing like this when it's finally clear in the morning!!

The only thing that's annoying me, is my alignment is way off and I'm having to make constant adjustments with the hand controller to keep Jupiter in the FOV..

When I saw how good the seeing was, I didn't want to waste time drift aligning

..and out pops Io.

Man that thing moves fast.

The scope is about to want to do a flip, so time to pack up and head to work to start processing

I was out there too, Mike.

And yes, the seeing was very good.

I went nuts. Captured 30 AVIs

Even turned the scope on Mars, I was so delirious

Have posted a quickie already in planetary images.

Loads of detail.

It's certainly shaping as a very good Jupiter season

The processing has just got underway.. virtualdub is cranking out bmp's now.

I took 23 avi's in total, most with Luminance and RGB channels.

I tried SMS'ing Anthony to see if he was out in it - if Canberra had good seeing too then I imagine he was! Another ripper from Bird coming I bet.

Good on you Mike
And you may find you will start seeing the advantage of no set up with a pier.. it was never the work involved that steered me to a permanent pier but the fact that you could always start with a good polar alignment.. sometimes for whatever reason it eludes you .
I was out last night it was fun but not productive other than being a happy experience .
But I recognise imaging planets is not very easy at all.
My Saturn looked like a mono color car badge... mmm the chalenge of is starting to get me in .
Clouded in around 12 so I packed it in but looking early this morning I should have worked thru .
I also look forward to seeing your results .

Shame you missed it Anthony. However it's looking to be clear again tonight.

I'll post a red channel that's processing now, in a few minutes.

Excellent, Mike!!!

And confirms the albedo features on Ganymede I captured earlier this morning.

Isn't it funny how we now consider capturing surface detail on Ganymede as routine or expected

hmmmmm, moderator dave here................all posters in this thread are now off topic.

the "general" area is for talking crap and stuff ('stuff' is defined in the T.O.C)

I thought I made it clear that magnificent images of jupiter and common everyday in your sleep surface detail of ganymede are not to be posted in this "general" area.

I am therefore forced to split this thread.......houghy, here you are, this is your piece; ving, be careful with that bit; and asimov, chainsaws and red channels of jupiter are not best friends
