Thumbs up Jupiter from this morning, 12" newt

Hi all

Here's the first run through of an avi from this mornings session with Jupiter.

I've only run through 2 out of 14 avi's in registax, the very first and the very last. This one is the very last. There may be some better ones in-between which I'll get to over the next few days.

Quite pleased with the result, though I think my collimation is slightly off. I had some flaring when capturing Io/Europa and it appears a bit in this image on the top right of the image, a bit of fuzziness I can't account for.

Very happy with the colour, and some good detail is captured though it's a bit of a 'boring side' with no big spots or storms that I can see.

12" GSO Newt on EQ6, 5x powermate + DMK21AF04. 300 frames stacked in each channel.

Thanks for looking.

Nice for the first off the rank for the day Mike

That fuzziness is a bit wierd. lt looks almost like a misalignment, but not quite.

LOL
We all have boring sides. (being into amateur astronomy is one, according to my other half). But Jup's plain side is still beautiful.

Well, that is a damn fine image Mike. Hope you manage to fix the niggling little problems with collimation, if that's what it is.

Looks very, very promising for when Jupiter gets higher.

Cheers

Dennis

well done Mice,

damn fine image.......please can i have a sneak peak at a 440x440 cut from say registax? just to compare your 5x (without extension and 12") with my 7.7x (with extension and 10")

do you notice a lot more light and have the capture settings changed a heap?

excellent that the tracking is spot on

No worries re the raw - i'll do a comparison shortly and post the results. Just busy processing the data still.

Hard to say about the light gathering - with the 5x powermate at 30fps (1/30s) I still have the gain on full (100%) and there's still not a lot of dynamic range with the histogram only half full. At 15fps I have the gain at almost full, but the histogram is full at least.

As Jupiter gets brighter and higher it might be more noticeable.
