EQ6 Goto at Andrews for $1299 - No Stock
Hi All,
This might be a mistake and I called and checked and there is not stock of EQ6 at Andrews but the website has changed recently in the last few days with an incredible price reduction on the Goto mount for $1299. Unfortunately there seems to be no stock.

Well the page has changed in the last 3days Cause I called last week twice to get a Syntrek price as it was not listed and the Goto was listed for 2300ish.
Suddenly today when I checked to see why they had not called me back the page has changed. But there is no stock.
It also seems that the supplier is not selling the syntrek version of the mount anymore. They have withdrawn it and are now only selling the goto or the older non-goto mount with the older motors. Perhaps this is due to the advent of the EQ6Mod that does away with needing the hand controller.
The best price at present seems to be 1995 for the EQ6 PRo goto mount from telescopeshop.com.au as noted and purchased by one of the members here.
I think I might end up with a motorized dob rather than a equatorial mount. As I was investigating the polar view from my home and its there but not in a good location from the backyard.

Bintel also have the EQ6 Pro for $1999, I think?
Are Andrews actually getting stock at that price?

when i called about the HEQ5- i was curious about the different mounts- i found out the skyscan is the same as the 'PRO' series mount- the only thing your paying for on the pro series is the fancy white paint

Mike, you've made the transition, how hard is it to manipulate the OTA onto the EQ6? Do you have to disassemble after each night, or is it a permanent fixture now.
Would a husky girl be able to cope with it?

1. Andrews informed me last week that the V3 controller still has many bugs, no hard fix date yet in place and advised avoid it.
2. The web site still lists the goto EQ6 for $1299 as of right now:
Skywatcher Equatorial MountsTypePrice $(AUD)EQ5 with aluminium reipod legs$399.00EQ6 Go-To has steel tripod legsNow $1299.00

EQ6 Goto about to be removed from Andrews website
I just rang Andrews and they are about to take the EQ6-GOTO off the website. They are waiting on information from their supplier. The guy I talked to didn't know what the price will be when they again have them in stock. It sounds like it will not be $1299 .

thats a crying shame rob. $1200 would have been teh deal of the decade even if it wasnt vers 3.0!
i noticed the they have taken teh majority of the mounts off teh website

I dont see the EQ MOD being the reason for the Syntrek removal, the EQMOD is still under development with many modules still to be implemented into the code. I would put it down to sales rather than the development of the mod.
Maybe the EQ7 isn't far away

I think the 1299 price is a mistake as noted in my orginal post. I was informed by Andrew (when I called for the 2nd time chasing the Syntrek price and availability) last week that he was not happy with Skywatcher supply and was moving more into the Celestron gear. I am sad that after calling the 3rd time today, I still have not received my call back. Other vendors were quick to come back to me that the EQ6Syn model will not be supplied by the Australian supplier. I was hoping against the odds that someone may have had stock of the last EQ6Syn.

I have to disassemble.. I don't have an observatory. I left my dob/platform out in the yard, covered with a tarp/cover usually. I could do the same with the EQ6 but am concerned about the electronics.

I guess so, if you did it in small pieces.. The mount is very heavy.

hi all
andrewes price is got to be wrong,i just brought the series 3 version of eq 6 from nvt i had to wait for shippment as they were selling fast .i have no complaints with the scope its great, even though its abit heavy but stron g dis, assembly is fairly simple taking it apart in sections, fortunatly i dont have to it is in a observatory, one thing would watch is keeping the scope electrics cool,my lxd55 meade drive has not worked since coming back from lostockme thinks because of the heat.

I do not believe heat has anything to do with electronics not working.
More likely it is humidity (water). If you have dew on circuits and the power is switched ON, the electrolysis may oxidize the already poor joint and cause fault. Usually, re-soldering restores the functionality.
Or, vibrations/shock was the cause....
Or damaged connectors (this can always happen on such occasions)..

I got the exact same mount from andrews for $799. its not listed on thier site any more tho. i think AOE has really good prices on teh heq5 if thats the way she wants to go
