NGC6752 What light pollution?

Its been a while and I hope you are all well.

I kind of gave up when council "Upgraded" the streetlight outside the house in Sydney with no shielding despite requests (sure, why not light up my garden fence 30M from the road, why dont you..) but with a pause between contracts I have been getting setup again, cleaning out cobwebs from the imaging train and looking at how to approach the LP here.

This is a first light, if you can call it that. I figured Globular clusters are a little easier with these conditions and I wanted to check PemPro had done its thing as apparently the earth may have tilted on its access a little more since the last time I posted), that guiding was working and that I had truly got the last of the spiders out of the scope

Details
CFF RC 250mm F7
AP900 mount
STL6303e CCD (which explains the blooming in the big stars which I will deal with next time)
Processed in PI and resized in Photoshop but OMG, How much bloatware does that app (PS) have these days? I could'nt use it for a while because it "needed" 50GB in the scratch drive,FFS)

As always, stuff what I learnt..
  • My green flats are over correcting so will look at that at some point. I have put in new flat taking setup but there may be a very obvious dust mote..cough
  • Gradient Correction in PI is new to me and its so much better than ABE and DBE. Dealt with some nasty gradient really well so I think for this type of object I may be ok.
I do need to calibrate my monitor which I havnt used for processing before

Love a good Globular cluster. Thanks for looking

That's still a very nice image David!
Yes, these LED street lights suck, I have one diagonally across the road out the front and it lights up my entire back yard like an oval for a televised Friday night football game.
There's a big pine tree bolcks out a little but not much of the entire back yard is suitable for imaging of any kind now.
When I was young a sling shot or 22 fixed these things, can't own either nowadays....

Welcome back David

Nice glob there and stars haven’t been affected too much by LP and this big ol moon that’s up at the moment
Shame about your street light but look what I have to put with at my Sydney imaging location which is Bortle 8 ( more like Bortle 9 if you factor in all that flood light glare ) My neighbours flood lights stay on most nights until late and no one is in the backyard plus on the other side my neighbours 2 storey recently completed Clarendon Home has a zillion exterior lights all over it that serve no purpose at all other than light up the homes brick walls as if it were a display home. Tarps from Bunnings have been my primary line of defence next to 3nm Narrowband filters. All my exterior lighting has movement sensors and timers to avoid wasted light energy when not in use and baffles to minimise light spill. Pity my neighbours don’t consider the affects of artificial lighting the same way.
Unfortunately we don’t have a good working relationship with our neighbours ( even though I have tried )
Fortunately I have an Observatory down the South Coast of NSW under Bortle 3 skies ( my Astro getaway and retirement haven )

Looking forward to seeing more of your work once this inclement weather buggers off.

Clear Skies
Martin
