6th May Large Sunspot

A large sunspot group is currently crossing the Sun's surface.
It is AR4079. This region measures 160,000 km across.
The image shown is a single exposure taken with a Canon 550d camera attached to a 81 mm WO refractor and Herschel wedge at 540 nm wavelength.

Great to see some solar again, nice image of the large spot, well done JW .
Have been following its' travel across the earth facing side of Sol . Tried to capture some images in Ha this afternoon, after noticing the large prom on the N.E! limb but had several technical problems unfortunately.

Nice resolution as always John, ,
I believe AR4079 created some light comm disruption in Nth Hemisphere.
Also moderate Aurora Southern Aus from images circulating social media..

There is still plenty of chance there be another Carrington event during this Maximum activity period , , ,
