Stellarium visual issue

Howdy,

I have Stellarium 24.1 on a 2024 Asus i7 Laptop just for knowing where sky and planets are etc, not using for scope control or anything,

But anyone have or had the issue of the Milky Way wondering around against the backdrop of stars, like when moving the star-field or zooming in on nebulas ect, the nebular shifts location differently

It is a PITA when wanting to plan Camera wide-fields accurately ?

1st pic) with Eta-Car zoomed in somewhat with the imposed Neb (Brighter Orange) in location but there is the separate background image of the Milkyway with the ghost Eta Car located off-set (Yellow)
These two Eta's do overlap correctly when zoom in further, so its when zooming out the milkway shifts ?

2nd pic) zoomed out some and notice the Imposed Neb fades away(orange) and the Ghost Milky way and Eta-Car have both moved radically

3rd pic) Zoomed out further Now Showing Milkyway with Ghost Eta-Car to the left of Southern Cross,
Also now Note: MilkWay under and to right of Cross and Pointers,

4th pic) After Rotating sky to be viewing from/to a more easterly direction - sheeze, the whole sky has virtually flipped

I have re-downloaded to no avail, , I have changed and tested all the viewing options in settings ect, , nothing

Just want to try some image compositions this winter of nebs close to prominent mountain tops,

Thnx in Adavance , ,

Hi Bob.

I am running older version 23.4 on a Windows PC and it seems fine.

Was Stellarium working for you previously?

Perhaps try downloading a different (older or newer) version number?

The Stellarium website seems to link only to the latest version (e.g. Version 25.1 for Windows 10+). However, you can find the earlier versions by seaching for 'Stellarium version 23.4' or other version numbers on Google. From Google, look for link that goes to the GitHub site that hosts the downloads, and scroll down the GitHub page to find the earlier versions.

Also, check that you are downloading the appropriate operating system version from the GitHub site (e.g. Windows 7+ or Windows 10+ etc.)

I am just guessing at solutions here - maybe worth a try.

Yes, seems only the latest 25.1 - Win 10+ version is active unless I'm missing something, usually the case, Lol,

So I did that 25.1 as you do and YeHaa, everything is fine, Milkway behaving accordingly to the background now, perfect in fact, , ,

I wonder why was a problem, one would think how it was downloaded, I doubt the prog itself was at fault , so something in the transfer or updates, anyway, does not matter and no need to find out, it be a goose chase

Cheers for the support and encouragement Pierre - - Problem Solved
