No, as long as both the mount & camera are connected to the ASIAir via USB that's all you need. ST4 is an old alternative that pretty much no-one uses these days.

Hello Mark
Thanks for that, yes main camera asi533mc connected to asiair
Guide camera connected to back of asi533 (should this be moved to asiair also?
mount control connected to asiair
End of the day John one cable less means one thing less to worry about and everyone on here will attest to that.
I've been thinking about looking into ST4 guiding and it would be some third party software, I don't have an ASIAir (ZWO is it not?), first I have to look if any of my older cameras I was either given or I got very cheap have the port, I know my newer Player one I also got used cheap has it but that is my primary camera until I win Ozlotto next Tuesday.
agree, but i would rather get it right to get then have to worry about the what ifs.
I have ordered some cable sleeves so even with the extra cable its no big deal. I'll neaten it all up with the sleave, run all cables through it and let the ends pop out where required.
Ah, sorry Leo, ive already got the winning numbers for next Tuesday

I can see us becoming close friends, LOL.
You win I get my choice of scope and camera (within reason), I win you get your choice of scope/mount/camera.

As I always say "Dreams are free"!
I'd be very interested in knowing which way you go with the ST4 whether you stick with USB as suggested or go for the ST4 cable.
I don't have USB control of any of my old gear, my primary camera is USB3 but has an ST4 guiding port.
As mentioned, I have some much older cameras I was kindly given before acquiring the little IMX178 Player One Neptune and I believe they may have ST4 ports.
I have all of the cables including the shoe string units but until I either get my pier in or fill the big hole back in where my mount was always set up prior to digging and leaving a big hole (with a full sized pallet covering it for safety). A combination of lousy weather and health have plagued me for a bit but my mount is a heavily modified EQ5 pro and I'd love to play with more accurate guiding than I've had in the past, except just once when the stars aligned.
I live just west of the Blue mountains in basically a crater and I can not do a 3 star alignment from my place.
I do however have a QHY Polemaster I got considerably cheap on here I've yet to try out but good alignment alone is not enough. Great start though I guess.
Leo, i was going to test it tonight, but too many clouds so decided against it. Hopefully get a chance to test it within the next few days.
I did my wiring loom today without it, but can easily add it into the cable jacket if needed. Cables sleeves really do make everything look nice and neat.
The SV55 is all done and then going to do the c925
That looks great John!
I love that cable sleeve, I keep rolls of varying sizes here somewhere, probably easier to buy more if I need it.
It's not just making it look tidier, I find cables to be a major trip hazard in the dark, especially for a clumsy person. I never used to be clumsy but a couple of months back I placed some blow cases of heavy mechanical tooling at my back door to remember to take it up to the shed, saw a rainbow outside at the back which was unusual (the middle part was missing), ran in and grabbed my little compact camera and ran back out the back door to snap some shots. In the process I fractured my 4 little toes on my left foot and broke the first metatarsal between the big toe and foot. FUN!
They're OK now but the smaller ones hurt like crap when it gets cold and soon it's going to get very cold here. The one broken bone I couldn't feel (didn't hurt at all) even when a doctor grabbed the toe and bent it and squeezed it, not my first rodeo unfortunately..
If you are connected to the Mount using WiFi and have the Mount App and Ascom driver running you don't need any cables for guiding. PHD2 will connect to the Mount using the Ascom Driver for guiding.
I have been running my ZWO AM5 like this for over a year.
I actually use a ASIAIR pro mounted on the scope. The only cable to the mount is a power cable.
Damn Leo, that would have hurt, i broke my little pinky toe 4 weeks ago and know that was painful, let alone fracturing 4 and a brake DAMN
Thanks for the info Charles.
I can happily report its working just fine without the st4 cable with the ASIAIR plus.
My guiding error has been fairly good over the last hour. Am sitting at the following values
RA 0.44
DEC 0.38
total 0.57
I havent played too much with any of the guide settings, reading up and learning what each of them do, but this seems to be doing well and believe to be a good result?

A little bit. I have chronic pain daily, over 50 years of it and have had much worse.
Wow, no cables and accurate guiding sounds amazing. Unfortunately for my old mount wifi and USB are not an option, maybe one day.
Have you had the weather to play John or just running simulated guiding (pretending there's stars like I'd be doing at my place with cloud cover)? I wanted to try out my Astro-Trac last night with the Polemaster for alignment, just couldn't happen and today is looking like a big storm is coming soon. Friday is supposed to be clear, according to my phones weather app but it can change.
i was lucky i had some good weather last night, not the clearest of skies, but enough to see stars and get guiding.
this was from last night, around 1.5 hours and a quick nasty process on siril
SVBONY SV555
SVBONY SV165 mini guidescope
ASI 120mm mini guide camera
ASI 533MC pro
SVBONY SV240 Multi-Narrowband Filter Galaxy & Nebula NIR Near-infrared Light Pollution
Skywatcher Wave 150i mount
That's better than what I can get, very nice indeed.
The guiding looks good!
I went out last night to see if perhaps I could set up my Astro-trac and just play with alignment since I machined up an adapter to fit the Polemaster to it. Not a chance. It really is minutes to set up.
Today looks like it's going to pour in a short while.
Friday is so far predicted to be clear here but that would be very unusual for Easter weekend.
It ended up the clearest most beautiful night which, nothing fitted correctly for me.
