In the last 2 weeks I have observed DSO from these places with a 10" Dob

A quarry near Baudin Beach, Kangaroo Island
Saw an echidna there

Hi Glen,

What a fantastic two weeks! There is nothing like a road trip with one’s telescope - and when the itinerary includes the places from which you observed with your 10-inch... Stunning! Great haul of galaxies in Virgo!

That's a lot of driving Glen, I'm glad our local sky turned on some good weather (Mudgee is an hour away).

Observing places in South Africa

Dark places in South Africa are diminishing at a alarming rate, I suppose in other parts as well, but one of the darkest places I ever visited lately was "Jakkalse gat" (fox's hole), it is a hunting cabin under Bortle 1 sky, you can see no lights from anywere for 360 degrees, a slight glow from towns in the distance. It has solar electricity, gas stove and very important a indoor fire place because it gets very cold there!
