An excellent book tells the whole sorry story of the Sacklers and Purdue.
Empire of Pain.
By Keefe I think who had been working on this for many years.

Great title. Great book. Probably the basis for the movie.

Even pharmacists and medicos were shocked at the all pervasive depth of the conspiracy , there are enough real conspiracies to go around to bother with the rest of the self professed.

From the trailer it appears as if it follows on from or is a precis of a few other similar, but older (2021?), 2 parts documentaries along a similar vein from HBO (I think also available on Foxtel)...The Crime of the Century

OK ...does "Big Pharma" have the cure for cancer and keeping it secret to profit from selling existing stock etc.
The rat bag who told me contended that folk vacinated would lose their arm and that 95 % of those vacinated would die due to the vacination so maybe you can understand why I don't take the "Big pharma" claim seriously...am I being too hasty?

The conspiracies I find entirely laughable are those that have no evidence and defy all logic if they were some how true...for example that 'big pharma" (the use of such a term heralds a fool is about to speak) have the cure for cancer but they keep it secret because they can profit pushing their phoney drugs.

What rubbish...do these idiots expect you to believe there is no money to be made from a legitimate cancer cure...but they don't think ... they are just happy to believe the latest dribble from their favourite liar web site.

Why is the need for evidence lost on these fools...

So have you heard of a good unsupported conspiracy recently?

If interested in a what I find humorous take on conspiracy theories/stories, check out Inside Job on Netflix.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inside...2021_TV_series)

Warning it is an “adult” cartoon with a lot of colorful language and themes…but twistedly funny

The sovereign Citizenship devotees are the ones for me not only do they hold a particular view .. they follow it up with multi layered actions that ultimately ruin themselves.

The people we see arrested roadside for not displaying number plates or following lawfull directions .. most often are also
Locked in protracted legal battles with government for unpaid rates ,fines, etc, probably going to have all there assets sold off to clear the council debt plus costs.

Am unsure of an answer but these people are clearly mentally unwell the person who gets ejected out the end of all this is likely going to be more unstable and dangerous to be around

Yes the sovereign citizens...they have this crazy idea that the law can be found in a legal dictionary..but typical of folk who think they know the law because they have made it up themselves or read something on the net...

In the USA ( maybe elsewhere as well) the sovereign citizens claim they do not have to have a licence or registration (re car) because they are not using their vehicle for commerce...heck if only...AND they have the stupiditybto tell the Police they don't know the law...they may not be High Court Judge material but they know a fair bit.

One thing I have noticed with conspiracy theorists is they claim to be open minded but will never consider both sides of a proposition and that is understandable given their world is one of make believe...

AND sadly conspiracies is a billion dollar business in the USA ( and probably else where)
with many gullible folk believing whatever these folk put out...because they want to..confirmation bias runs rampant with them.

MY point is simply this..no doubt mischief abounds in the world but any claim must have supporting evidence..that really is the basis of our law and our science...if you can not offer reasonable evidence you are simply playing make believe.

Someone I grew up with is down the rabbit hole with this
And has made the news in his hometown..Not short off assets by most standards he would be seen as wealthy.. last I read he was fronting court for impersonating a govt official the case was adjourned as he kept talking over the judge and was sent for a medical assessment.. council was in the process of selling his home for unpaid rates..family and others have tried to step in to help but get shrugged in regard.. from memory he was always not quite on this planet .. I guess things kept on rolling down the hill over the years

The sad reality is that so many of these folk have some sort of mental disorder which is not surprising when you look at the numbers to find that mental illness can visit many people in their life time and for some it is a permanent issue.

Such underlying issues can make growing up painful for them and leave them with a negative view of the world and particularly humanity and mainstream knowledge...these folk are most susceptible to conspiracy tales.

AND it does seem that there are various media outlets that target folk with fearful propositions that can only add to their confusion.

Then say in the case of the sovereign citizen type you get what you can call a critical mass where there is enough of them to tell each other they are right..social media etc helps these folk to find each other and convince themselves they are right....also folk do like to think they are special and privy to knowledge that mainstream denies the " sheeple"...how they love that term...when they use it they feel special of course, when in truth so often it is that they are just hopelessly ignorant of normality....

So often those who use the term " sheeple" are members of a cult or group that is indeed a group of folk who could only be described as sheep due to their inability to rationalise they are following unsupported dogma which they must never question...

Anyways it still is a wonderful world as evidenced by the fact that we are just so much better off than folk from the past...yet there are still folk who see the world as being the worst it has ever been...sadly thru plain ignorance and an inability to process information that contradicts their beliefs.

It is my casual observation and perhaps a gross generalisation that conspiracy types have not enjoyed what they consider to be sucessful lives and are on the continual look out to find fault with most everything and everybody but rather than face up to the fact that the problem starts and invaribly ends at their door step they seek conspiracy as the evil force that holds them back.

If only they could realise success is no more than taking and accepting personal responsibility and looking to fix ones issues rather than abdicating all responsibility for ones actions.

alex

The main thing to remember when judging the world such as I have been doing is just how limited our experience with other people really is...I had careers that saw me meeting new folk every day and in situations where I would learn a great deal about them and hence one can easily believe one has a vast experience and therefore a wide knowledge of people...now of course I have met more folk than many but when you work out the numbers you realise even if you have met a thousand fold more than most that you still have only met a very small number of the world population and so you must conceed you really don't know that much....without humility wisdom has no home.

AND then there are the folk who have one negative experience say with a policeman or public servant, lawyer or doctor and in their wisdom pronounce all in that group are the same... they base their view on one interaction...and even if they had hundreds they still really know nothing of the overall group...such a pity folk generalise and I hate it when I find myself doing that...it is just plain wrong.

AND so maybe I have been too harsh on conspiracy theorists and sovereign citizens ...are they all crazy or only the ones that I have encountered or read about?

Rather than starting a new thread I thought I would put my comment here. Dealing with Flat Earthers and Deniers on FB polluting nearly every Space related forum with their stupid memes and ignorant comments ... then a simple image put it into perspective.

A conspiracy theory requires at least some of those who peddle it to know exactly what they are doing. So no, they are definitely not all crazy.
