Horsehead Nebula

Hi all, I took this image of the Horsehead Nebula last night.
It comprises of
30 images @ 30 seconds in Luminescence
15 images each @ 30 seconds in RGB
Processed in MaximDL.
I had a streetlight hiding behind some trees so I think that it may have been affecting the final image so I'll look forward to when it is higher and have another go at it.
Overall I'm happy for my first attempt at it, still have lots to learn though.

cheers

well done
i remember how excited when I first managed to capture a (terrible) glimpse of it myself!
I'm surprised that they have street lights in wamboin (ok I'm only stirring...I'm near Braidwood) but I have no doubt that when you image it higher in the sky especially with an LX200R of 12", you will get some very very nice results.
this one might even be able to have its midtones enhanced a bit to bring out the red of the nebula?
good job
keep up the passion!

Hi Frank, at the moment we are renting in Queanbeyan while I am owner building our house at Wamboin (about 12 months to go). Your right, the council is too poor to spring for lights at Wamboin but I'm not complaining and the nearest neighbours light is nearly a kilometre away, I cant wait to set up out there. mmmmm dark skies.

I've also found a walkthrough for the MaximDL program and discovered there a a few things in the processing area that I haven't been doing that I should, so I will have another go at processing and see if I can improve on it.

cheers

I had another go at the processing side of things and lightened the Horsey up a tad.
I think this shows a bit more.

Thanks RB, I'm a lot happier with the second one and I'm also sorting out a few technical details with Maxim which is also helping.
A few more steps up the learning curve as they say.

cheers
