Melbourne Sun on 270123 - spectroheliograph

Hi all

Just recently built myself a spectroheliograph as per Mr C. Buil's Solex recipe & here attached are a few initial attempts in Ha and Hb.

The imaging scope was a SvBony 70mm f/6 refractor

The best 11 Ha scans (rebuilt into a solar disc with the excellent INTI software) of 21 were aligned & stacked in Autotakkert 3! and then wavelet deconvolution sharpened with Astrosurface. Same process for the Hb data, but only 4 scans used here.

I've also attached a crop of a single scan (disc occulted in software) to show the prominence on the top RHS of the frame.

Very compressed versions attached here, slightly better on Flikr here:

Probably worth a zoom in to near full size..

cheers
Maurice

PS sorry - forgot that I had a Ca band image from the same session & now attached.

Thanks very much Ken.
It's been a while.... hope that all is well.
It is a different set of challenges with the spectroheliograph compared to my usual lunar & planetary imaging - but I'm looking forward to it!

Thank you C & P..
Not sure that 'mastered' is the right word here
I have been lunar & planetary imaging for a while (about 30 years), but this is different in a good way.
We'll see how it goes.

Maurice,
Yeah still settling in the the "downsizing" at Junortoun.
We finally have the car in the garage, and most of the boxes at least emptied.
"I used to have one of those" - "It must be somewhere" become daily chants.
Haven't managed to get telescope, spectroscopes or SHG's set up yet, but I hope it won't be too far.
