NGC1763 Nebula in Narrowband

Hi Guys

NGC1763 is a large bright emission nebula with an embedded star cluster in the Dorado constellation in the Large Magellanic Cloud, about 160000 light-years from Earth.
Taken on my RCOS 10" RC Scope at f9, SBIG STXL6303E Camera and PME mount at itelescopes Siding Spring Observatory.
Processed with CCDstack, Star Tools and Photoshop. 21 hrs Total exposure time with 3nm Narrowband filters. Ha and OIII, all 30 min subs.
Big version here

An awkward one to process, OIII is buried by Ha, masking required.
Ive gone from 1hr to 30min subs these days. I know longer is always better, but given the noise reduction tools these days, I just cant be bothered with the risk of 1hr subs. Eventually ill just get "EXterminator" everything and just do 3 1min subs. Everything will be fixable in post

Cheers
Fred

Nice one Fred, it’s certainly a distinctive, wacky looking target!

Very nice shot. It’s amazing how much there is to see in this region when you go this deep.

Nope. Longer isn't always better! NoiseXTerminator + StarXterminator = 10 min subs (=almost everything). Alas, his new BlurXterminator is PI only - a betrayal of the PS cause!

Fred,
You always seem to find these interesting objects that folk rarely image
Lovely image
Well done !!
Don’t worry about that Blur exterminator thingy or what ever it’s called , Startools 1.8 SV Decon blows the doors off this tool with true image signal processing fidelity
Ivo is currently working on 1.9 and has a big surprise install for the upgraded SV Decon module ( suppose to be even better )

Cheers
Martin

It is a bit wacky. Wacky isn't always attractive, but you don't know till you try and commit.

Thanks Dave. Even deeper was an option, but often just gets messy.

Thanks Marcus. You bet, PS IMO still offers the most intuitive, powerful end processing IMO. Perhaps not that mathematically correct, but the twisting effort in PI does just leaves me cold, no fun.

Yes, it now seems that way. Deeper can reveal more nebula for instance below the (unprocessable) noise floor of a 10 min sub, but that's not what astrophotographers strive for these days. Its a shallower, popping image. Way less time in capture, a few clicks in a magic app and job done. I totally understand BTW, its way more fun, especially in NB, and often cleaner and more impressive than some messy deep rendition.
Someone in CN did a basic stretch with a FITS image, converted to 16 bit tiff and ran BXT over it. Was more than acceptable apparently, so yes a PS plug in version what be a good thing you would think, more money.

Thanks Martin. OK, well, ill certainly be checking that out !!!. If BXT turns out to be somehow better or more convenient, youde think Ivo would strike a deal to get a plug in for ST wouldn't you ?. That would be a killer.
