Tarantula in SHO

This is a very difficult object to image I have found. Quite simple and easy to get to the core however the outskirts are a whole different story. I've worked on this image for about 3 weeks now, just gradually adding data to see how it goes and I am finally happy with the result. 8 hours and 25 mins collected over 3 nights dodging the weather around me. About 3 hours of it was taken in dark skies at Bortle 1 which helped get the faint stuff out.

I have looked at this image really closely as I have been making it and there is one thing that perplexes me. There is a tiny Sii pocket down in the bottom left-hand corner. It's really faint and it only started showing up at around the 6-hour mark. As I used the SHO palette, it was easy to identify it as a Sii object. I would love to know what it actually is. At first, I wondered if it was some sort of artifact in my images that my flats hadn't corrected however I have managed to identify it in other images of the area. I guess further research will reveal its nature.

Wow Lachlan that’s superb! The full size especially just shows an incredible level of detail and depth. Colour pallet is beautiful. Just a thoroughly enjoyable image to view! Well done!

This target never ceases to amaze me, and your version Lachlan is no exception. A rich dynamic range and beautiful colours.

Very nice result Lachlan, nice looking colour palette and a good level of faint extensions there

The Calabash shaped nebula is indeed a SNR and a great feature always worth framing into a shot of the Tarantula region I recon, its very cool.

You can read about it HERE

That’s a fine image of a spectacular region in our southern skies
SHO palette is excellent, perfectly framed and the contrast and colour make it really pop
So much to explore in this region
Well done !!

Cheers
M
