Very nice Mike. Smooth processing, sharp and resolved all over with a terrific amount of detail. Just love the width of that central rille - so cleanly and clearly resolved. Easily one of the best images I have seen of this feature.
Today, I received my copy of the "Lunar Orbiter Photographic Atlas of the Near Side of the Moon" by Charles J. Byrne, from Amazon. Here’s a quick spiel about the book:
“In 1967, Lunar Orbiter Mission 4 sent back to Earth a superb series of photographs of the surface of the Moon, despite severe degradation caused by scanning artifacts and the reconstruction processes involved in transmission from lunar orbit.
Using 21st century techniques, Charles Byrne – previously System Engineer of the Apollo Program for Lunar Orbiter Photography – has removed the artifacts and imperfections to produce the most comprehensive and beautifully detailed set of images of the lunar surface.”
Anyhow, I had a look at the Alpine Valley image from Lunar Orbiter Mission 4 and your image more or less resolves this area as well as the LO image!
nice mike
dispite the fact the second one gives more contrast i prefer the first as its more pleasing to the eye (yeah i know, detail lost). it'd be great if you could put up a little scale so we have some idea of distances
