NGC 3372 Carina Nebula Reprocess

I decided to reprocess the data from the other day and post a new version as I really wasn’t entirely happy with the originals

Took a more conservative approach to processing and took the foot off the pedal a bit and focused on regions of interest plus a new Bi colour blend using the Interpolate option in the Colour Matrix

Set a ROI in the final stretch to balance the brightness and detail across the whole object
Backed off Contrast module
No HDR module
Only a light Sharpening
Used the Entropy module to accentuate main structures and detail
Used Dim Small in Superstructure module to dim the tiny stars and thus accentuate gas and dust details

New Version full frame size
Some Crop versions to view closer details ( obviously less res )

Comments most welcome
Thanks

It’s worth revisiting your processed images sometimes

Thanks Adam
I use GSO newts and they do the job !!
My 6” in Sydney cost me $299 5 years ago
This 8” in my Dome cost me $540 4 years ago
I’ve have a 10” f5 KH Carbon fibre with GSO mirrors arriving next month

In regard to Star colours , no mask , no tweaking , Startools does it all for you in the colour module whether RGB or NB blends
You can use a mask if you wish but I choose not to

Martin I think your images are fantastic and I really wonder how you can do better with a new rig...but one seems driven to go bigger.

I took the angle grinder to the extention tube between the RASA and the camera as the little doughnuts told me a couple of mm removed would see get me focused ( this is with the MM as the filter draw is a little too wide) and happy days it worked.

Sounds rash but I finished it off with a smooth file and two grades of fine sanding paper and constantly referrenced a very good gauge...

However still much to do.

Again excellent images I hope one day to come close to doing what you do.

AND I think you have shown just how wonderful be that magical program..StarTools.

Thanks Alex
Very kind comments
The new 10” f5 Carbon fibre will mostly be used for galaxies , smaller nebula and globs as the FOV is tighter than the 8” but more light gathering power
Both 8” and 10” rigs with be interchangeable ( each fully set up with their own EAF focuser , guide scope and Losmandy bar etc.. basically plug and play ) on the new EQ8-R pro
Yes Startools is a pleasure to use
Going to upgrade to V1.8 later in the year
You just need some clear skies up there around Tabby to get that big RASA dialled in. Can’t wait to see your progress and images
Thanks again
Martin
