Car Port Help

I want to go back to my caravan to live but it gets very hot and even with the air conditioning going the temp is around 30 degrees Celsius...it was uncomfortable when I was relatively fit 12 months ago but now I think I could roast in there...I have had heat stroke once and you feel like you are dieing...my meds make me sensative to cold which may mean to be careful with heat also...

My solution is to first remove the annex which gets incredibly hot..the radiate heat must play a big part in heating up the caravan so I feel its removal will help.

The most sensible thing to do is put the caravan under a car port and seeing I am buying a car that must be kept out of the weather ( cloth roof) a double car port would seem sensible.

Last night I drew up plans and did a costing determined to be at Bunnings at 7 am and order everything...however I had a fall during the night and while laying on the floor realised my feet would not manage the trip to Bunnings so I decided to pull back and try to recover so I could at keast pick up the car on Wednesday which is a dead line thing...
So I laid in bed looking at pre fab car ports and found one that would be perfect 6 x 9 mtrs...draw back not here until February and I need pay 50% deposit ...most of all I dont know them ..they may be good or may be scoundrels...Gritty Palace.

So I ask here for input ...have you bought a pre fab car port and could you speak favorablely about the vendor such that I could perhaps go to them in the hope they can help..

And guidance will be greatly appreciated as I really need to get out of here..I need my space and they need theirs...

Man, what are you doing to yourself, hope you are OK mate.

Alex I spent sometime in the NT and those portable car port structures are everywhere, they are very good and work a treat.

They will protect from the Sun an also provide plenty of ventilation

As for your Annex, mate take it out side and burn it. they are the most useless, hot, cramped, stupid inventions ever.

I have been around Australia for many years, and although one came with the Caravan it has never be opened, you can have it if you want

All my traveling friends hate the stupid things, and just drag them around in their vans for fun and to add weight to there tow limits.

Take care Alex, my friend

When I built my ROR obs on the farm, it began with a colorbond roof with the pattern running lengthwise. It was bloody hot and quickly became too much. So I built a second skin over the top of it by running lengths of metal battens and then fastening more aluminium profile on them running the right way and in between, sheets of insulation. It made a dramatic difference.

It just hit me...with the annex gone moving the van becomes an option..I need to look but I think there is a good spot near the dam with trees and shade and closer to the rebuilt jetty ...I will look into that after Tuesday and Wednesday...Thursday I can get down to look.
I will still need something for the car in time but a tarp will do for now...and why should I worry as I will wear out before it does.

I have though laying similar direct onto the van roof but thought good air space would be the way to go.
Thanks for helping me.

Alex you only need a free standing canvas top Car port, they are so good and are very easy with a bit of help for you to put up.

Just laying canvas over your car is not such a good idea mate, the canvas will rub in the wind and cause paint damage, you would be better to just leave it off until you can get a portable car port setup.

Just my two cents worth.

I'm with Leon on this one. Best $230 I've ever spent. Poor old boat got evicted from the shed to make room for more toys. A few items though, 1/ I drilled and screwed/pinned all the joints as it was being set up. 2/ Used cheap shelf brackets and u bolts to affix to shed frame 3/ Sat each leg on 1/3 of a garden sleeper, tek screwed the cheap plastic feet to the sleeper, used ratchet ties to eyebolt in sleeper up to upper frame ($35 pack of 6, 350kg but only don't overtighten) and each sleeper/baseplate has 3 starpickets 500mm to secure to ground. We had 85km winds here from the west recently and no problemo. The reason went this way wasn't sure of location on a permanent basis, so this would be a fair trial. Like it that much it's staying, and if the cover eventually gives out will retain the frame and make another cover if they're not available. Brand is Shelter Logic. 3.3m x 6m.

Alex, I recommend a simple Bow Arch Boat Shed type structure. I built one of these when I was building my big catamaran, and it lasted for five years (I did have to change the cover once due to UV degradation). Simple arch frames made with bendable stock timber, batten to tie them together, and a silver UV resistant tarp (from Bunnings).
Just Google boat arch shelter and that will give you heaps of examples. Your assistant could probably knock one together in a day.

I agree that you do not want anything lying on the surface of your new car. Even nice canvas car covers can damage the finish, by flapping in the wind, rubbing against dirt on the paint surface, etc. Canvas or any tarp etc will heat up significantly, so keep the cover way above the car with a good distance between the cover and the car, if you go that way.

Thanks to everyone and I sincerely do thank you..being in a make shift bedroom area at the end of the dining room in your Exs house and few friends nor getting out much here is really all I have.
OK step one..I bought a temporary car port at Super Cheap Auto... It will fill the gap pending erection of what ever gets erected... here is a photo of what it is supposed to look like...it is in my car and hopefully my assistant can erect it on Friday.
The good news my fingers are better so maybe I will have a go at installing the electric focuser...feet are in a sad state and I just hope I can drive the new car home tomorrow...my lucky day..I went to buy flowers for the girl in the chemist and the girls in the bank and got there as they marked down the prices and picked up fifth bucks wirth for only $20.
The girl in the chemist..I ring her yesterday and she gets my meds here today and calls me to let me know they arrived...these are my cancer meds so it is so good to know I have someone like that being so kind.

And better news still...my $4 pocket watch arrived..I did not think it would but I had to test out the add..and it looks great..not mechanical but thats ok but it will be interesting to see how long it runs for..I might get 10 ladies ones to give as gifts rather than flowers...but it is just so uplifting to see these girls so pleased just over some flowers..I suspect not many people give flowers this way as they always seem surprised and very appreciative.
I would encourage everyone to give flowers to folk who are doing a job that helps you...and try to avoid killing little creatures they only have one life you know.

So it is up but the roof wont go together but hopefully it will stretch ..if not no worries as my telecom rope will tie the things down.

Very impressed.

AND after lunch going to move the caravan under the trees near the dam which takes off the pressure to buy a car port for it..the wait is not acceptable so I needed to approach the problem differently..with the annex removed and the shade of the trees the air conditioner should be able to get the temp down to something acceptable...if not I will move to Ballina and only come here to image..

A great day.
Brackets for the track and poles for the observatory fitted...theses have been worrying me since erection as the little bracket did not strike me as adequate...now it is strong The car port is up but another photo showing that the car and the mower fit.
Also the van has been relocated with considerable effort but is now under shade. I need a long way extention lead..15 amp say 50 mtrs. and all is good. Snakes could be a worry but heat or snakes I will go with snakes.
Still can hardley walk but heaps better than yesterday as I can bear the pain whereas yesterday no way.

Thanks for listening.

Congrats. Better put the roof on the car though. Snakes will love it. I’ve had a couple of scaley surprised on the farm and can vouch for snakey ingenuity in finding a cosy spot to have a post-prandial nap.

Also, vans under trees - as a grey nomad of some years, I have chosen to avoid trees that are prone to dropping - like spotted gums ( called widow-makers).

Hi Peter
The trees are relatively safe but I know exactly what you mean. On a path I walked along frequently for a walk in the bush one day I find about eight feet of dead limb standing perpendicular to the ground, driven in the wet soft ground about 2 feet ...I have never forgotten that and what a terrible way to go if I was going walking at the wrong time...wind! no go outside basically..

The present arrangement will be temporary as the car port somewhere in the middle of my cleared area is the goal.

It wont be long before I can move back in hopefully.

I plan on ringing the guy who cut down all the trees and have him trim the tree the van is under...mainly to get it to bush up but certainly lop anything that looks a possible threat.... plus see if he can lay some blue metal on my track.. I have been surprised how good this new car is clearing stuff as I thought I would be making contact in a few places...blue metal will help there and prevent bogging..a regular thing around here..even that tractor got bogged trying to pull my car out a while back.
