Thumbs up Vallis Alpes teaser

Captured this last night at the end of a great but frustrating lunar session between 6:30pm and 7:30pm.

Seeing started off EXCELLENT, best i've seen it in months.. but the moon was DIRECTLY overhead, which made pointing and tracking difficult and frustrating. It was extremely frustrating as I lost a LOT of time trying to get the object in the FOV and my tracking wasn't accurate so it kept drifting off and i'd have to start again.

So the results of the session won't be as plentiful as they could've been - it was a time I *really* wished I'd had an accurately aligned and tracking EQ mount.. those moments when the seeing is really good you want to be capturing, not playing around with tracking.

I think an EQ6 or similar will be on my wish list soon.. I should've bought strikers

Anyway here's a teaser from the session, it's not finished but I need to get something posted, as I probably won't get to these avi's again for a few days.

Taken with the 5x powermate and DMK. 200 frames stacked on each alignment point.

I'll tidy this one up when I get time again.

ooo look at that, reminds me of the canoe trees. I knew the Aboriginals have been around for a while but didn't know they were the first on the Moon too. Great capture.

Nice shooting Mike. Pity about the tracking frustrations you had though.

Hi Mike

That's a fabulous image with heaps of detail. Dig that crazy ccd chip outline - looks like the Hubble ccd chip which was also irregular!

Cheers

Dennis
