It Pays To Shop Around.

A few days ago l deceided to buy a new set up that could be broken down somewhat and some of the gear used as a travel set up.
Quite a lot of money is being invested so obviously numerous phone calls were made and e-mails were sent, l tried to buy as much equipment from one supplier as l could so that the incentive may be there for some sort of discount for buying in bulk as it were.
Well to my amazement the retailers that you would think had the size and to me anyway, the turnover to do a deal all came in a distant second to the eventual retailer who l bought from.
One of the smallest telescope outlets that l know of in Melbourne was able to easily out price every other shop l approached, this has left me baffled how this is possible although maybe the big guys just expect that if l don't buy at what l now know are inflated prices that someone else will, when buying gear whether you are a seasoned amateur or a newbie shop around and then shop around again the right price is out there. Names witheld to protect the guilty.

that may give away the stores involved and l don't want to be seen to be pinpointing anyone in particular but a large GEM a Cassegrain OTA and a Refractor were involved.

Surely the retailer you did the deal with deserves an honourable mention?

I noticed that they have just started advertising in the Astro magazines in the last couple of months. They also sell Pentax eyepieces, but I had already bought most of mine by then. I will keep them on my horizon...
