IC 4628 Prawn Nebula ( first image )

Captured IC 4628 Prawn Nebula for the first time last week at my South Coast NSW retreat. Located in Scorpius this emission nebula has eluded me for some time now but with my current set up was no problem imaging this fascinating object at magnitude 7.5 brightness. Seeing conditions were poor during most of the night which reflected in average to poor guiding numbers ( 1.10 to 1.30 arc sec total ) tried to dampen the guiding but Mother Nature is always the winner , still ended up with nice round , but slightly bloated stars. Only discarded 3 subs
A really enjoyable object to image !

South Coast NSW
Bortle 3 skies
82% waxing moon

Guide camera ZWOASI120MM-S
45 x 4 minute dithered guided subs
PHD2 guiding at 1.10 to 1.30 arc sec total

Framed focused and captured with APT

Comments most welcome
Thanks

Not too bad a result M.

I thought you would have had a go at the Moon?

From where I was it was only a pale red...

Peter,
Thanks
An interesting target which I’d like to do again with more data
I’m in Sydney this week for some medicals and other chores etc.. so no AP for a while
I prefer to image a first and last quarter moon, so much more interesting near the terminator getting down amongst the craters, rilles and Appenines etc...
Blue moons , blood moons etc don’t shake my booty
Cheers
M.

Hey Martin, a lot of the fainter detail clearly evident here. I'm returning to this one at the moment with a reducer so will see how that goes. Great work.

Thanks too
I’m going to re visit this object again at some stage
With more data obviously and some better processing to expose more detail and colour
