Gotta take a clear night when you get one these days. Canberra has been abysmal recently and it looks set to continue into the future. Last night was ok, though. I got some data on ngc2997 and Cent A.
NGC2997 was (surprise!) tiny and pretty difficult at mag 9.5 in the 'burbs, but I had better luck on Cent A. I'm happiest about the flecks of blue crowning the dust lane
I finally opened Rogelio's book this arvi and followed the absolute beginner processing for LRGB. I think the outcome is much better than my previous workflow, which was really just based on narrowband and I wasnt even really sure how to integrate L into RGB images!
Anyway, onwards n upwards! I saw the power of deconvolution in the process, though had to abandon it due to ringing. My plan to finally generate and use a star mask to work around that. There is plenty more detail in the dust band to be had.
I'm looking for any other processing tips that people might have? What do people think of the background? Noise? This is without any topaz sharpening or denoise and I think it looks ok, but would love to hear from others.
