berts lens - my mount, scotts camera, dual setup -the widefield

well late last night early this morning Scott snd I set out to capture a few happy snaps. I was building a few PC's late and invited Scott to come over and image with Berts 300mm lens. As it turned out the sky was not great, lots of high cloud and light pollution. But we did manage to get this, and a few other shots (badly processed by me, just wait for scott to load up the better versions!)

note i havent edited these much either

Houghy, Scott,

very nice images. Love the veil effect of the red nebulosity around the Horse Head= very deep images indeed.

Can't wait for such lenses to drop in price to around $1000. Yeah I know I am dreaming.

Howdy all
heers my processing efforts, with Iris, and masking in Photoshop for both M42 images.
Was luxury, heated antidew system on the lens even on the guiding eyepieces, thanks Houghy
Its the first time ive got a good go at the Pliades, as the house is in the way at my place.

Good to see you guys getting together.

Processing takes time to learn and it's also personal preference.

Scott these images are bit grainy.....is this due from all the masking processing...still nice to look at though.

I am really going to work on the horsehead this year...was not happy with the results from last effort.

Howdy
If the sky was darker Id not have needed to stretch the levels as much, I think thats why the images are a bit grainy. I might have a play with noiseware later on to see if it can smooth it out a bit.
Did a lot of fiddling to coax the detail out. Iris has this "white" function where you draw a small rectangle over the sky background and it automatically brings it to a neutral colour balance, its very handy for modded DSLR's
I can only imagine what we would have got had we been at Kulnura instead

Somehow I was involved and I was not even there. Now you be good hOughy and give Scott one of your autoguided mounts to use. Great to see a pooling of resources and expertise. The results speak for themselves.

Umm will try, but how about you send down that camera of yours , you wont be needing it for a while while it rains up there . I am sure with that and Bert's lens, my mount and scott autoguiding and a dark site life the universe and everything will be justified
