Ez Clutch Kit installed

Well tonight I tried to do several things, one was to try once again with the SCT laser collimator and it just got way worse, so I put it back to where it was. The other thing that I did was install the Peterson EZ clutch kit into the LX200. I purchased the clutch kit before Christmas, but never seemed to find the time to install it. Mind you it was out of sight and therefore out of mind.

I found the instructions really easy to follow, but you need to read each step carefully. Make sure that you have plenty of clean towels, there is a lot of cleaning to do. I used ez cleanup for the solvent, alcohol is not really needed.

Once, it is done the clutch is a lot tighter than before and needs little tightening with the dec knob to be stiffer than before.

Would I recommend this to other LX200? Absolutely. This gives a broader range of ability to the dec clutch. Can't wait to use it. One of the benefits I can see is that if you release the clutch the OTA will not go crashing down when the counter weights are not set.

Go for it and do it.

Paul just saw this thread and didnt realised you had installed it . must admit i was pretty nervous about doing it but the instructions are clear, exact and easy to follow .the only promblem i had was hetting the main disk gear out from the arm and applying the red grease afterwards to the gears ie:how much to put on . At first it was extremly hard to move but over time it has relaxed and remains firm but like you said wont swing even when the dec lok is undone but you can still get a feel where you need to place counterweights . Well done , a great accessory , something that should have been done by meade in the first place.

Well done Paul,
The clutch kit is well worth it, but when I first saw it i thought other wise

Still best to keep the scope balanced even thow some say differently.

I find the clutch kit and Mounting assistant plate 11 are the best things i have brought for my scope.

Enjoy
