M42 per channel process

Super frustrated with our crap weather here in Melbourne, Smoke haze from bushfires, overnight high level cloud cover nearly every night for the past 4 weeks! So re-processed last month's data using separate colour channels.

294 mc pro optolong l-enhance 2 minute exposures 58 minutes in total. Asiair for coordination

Loving seeing the results of your different processing flows, each image is really stunning! The redness throughout the wings makes me think of those hellish fires raging in NSW at the moment.

I know right! As someone who's only been doing AP for ~6 months I was really looking forward to what is supposed to be getting clearer weather (unless I'm wrong here), especially with some great targets starting to make an appearance throughout the earlier hours of the morning.

Thanks David
Well I have it all setup for tonight so weather dependent (it's pretty breezy and a high haze) I'm testing new gear so fingers crossed.

Seriously one of the most amazing images I’ve seen Nik. You’re first rendition was beautiful but this one is spectacular! You should be incredibly proud of what you’re achieving.

I’ve just stepped into an ASIair for guiding only at the moment until I get a dedicated astro camera. I’m having a couple of issues which I’d love to discuss if you have time ? Not here of course but if I can PM you ?

Again, a stunning image. Well done !

Not too bad in Melbourne but I feel for our more northern cousins

On first inspection I'd say not enough blue. The luminosity curves also need a selective tweak, as the nebula's core/trapesium is the brightest part of M42 and the brightness should roll off from there.

Don't believe me? Toss the camera, grab an eyepiece and soak in the real view

That said, this iteration is not bad, not bad at all.

Imaging standard candles can be seen by some as hum-drum, but the reason they are imaged so often...(and sadly, often poorly, and certainly not the case here )...is they are spectacular objects!

The Grand Canyon is spectacular...a crappy picture of it, is well, just another crappy picture....but the spectacular vista remains.

Perhaps I'm being obtuse, but to my thinking, great renditions that show the full majesty of various natural vistas are rare birds, and I for one, think they are are worth pursuing.

Stick with it
