North Magnetic Pole on the Move

Several news outlets have a story today about the latest update to the position of the North Magnetic Pole, which is apparently moving about 55kms per annum from the Canadian arctic towards Siberia.
NOAA has just released the latest position and declination adjustments current for 2019.

Story here:

If you use a compass to setup your mount, with adjustment to point to True North, you might want to use the new figure for your area. True, 55km pa is not much, but over the years it adds up.

Hi Glen
Could that be the reason why they are having very cold winters and we are having very hot summers

If that's the case, they will have to adjust ' Runway ' GPS concordances at all Airports World wide...!! ( sooner or later )

Pilots will have to ' enter new Runway Data ' on the Aircraft's FMC (Flight Management Centre ) before takeoff .

Geomagnetic reversal isn't a new thing and it has historically happened surprisingly quickly...

This is bad news for aurora watchers. The closer the magnetic poles get to the geographic poles, the less auroras we will see at these mild latitudes.
