Engineers at the Michigan Robotics research center at the University of
Michigan took advantage of the -22C "polar vortex" temperatures to
test how long their "Cassie" bipedal robot could operate for in the
extreme cold.
The rest of the university campus was closed for the day due to the freezing temperatures.

Well, she did one hour and two minutes of continuous operation at -22 C (-8 F).
The intrepid investigators stay, for the most part, in the laboratory and watch Cassie through the windows.
From time to time, we check on battery levels or record stuff with our phones.... When she fell at the end, the battery showed 60% charge.

Given the battery charge was still at 60%, from an engineering perspective,
I believe the most likely cause of failure was due to its ball bearings freezing.
