Sunspot and Prominence 19/8/06

Guys attached are some images I took if the prominence(s) new Sunpsot 904 today.

All pictures taken afocally with C5060, handheld, auto exposure, some manual focus some auto focus. Early shorts taken through 20mm Kellner, then 13mm nagler, then 13mm Nagler and 2x barlow.

Cropped, colour balance adjusted, in some cases unsharp masked and saved for the web on PS7.

A bit breezy here today so seeing and scope stability not what I'd like.

For those who would like to have a go, I've attached the unprocessed crops for some of the above images here. I'd love to see what some you guys can do with these!

The guts of my processing of PST images at the moment is adjusting color balance to try to bring out detail. Usually along the lines of:

Midtones: bump up red, and to a lesser extent yellow and magenta.
Highlights: bump up yellow and green (sometimes cyan)
Shadows: sometimes push blue, sometimes yellow and/or red to bring out the corona.

nice work to start with! yep saw them when they were extending out, now you have them folded over, I saw them this morning about 11, when did you take them

G,day Al. I gave your image a quick spin thru Photoshop. I am quite impressed with the amount of detail the PST shows. I may have to convince my self to buy one

I took them between 2 and 3 pm this arvo, HOughy.

Micko, what processing did you do in PS? It looks good!

Firstly I did an unsharp mask. Next I selected Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Levels. With the levels I adjusted the red and green channels (not the blue) and then lightened the image slightly.

Next I selected Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Curves. On the Graph I slightly increased the contrast. Finally I saved it as a Jpeg.
