Rcw 94_95

I'm just catching up on processing this data captured during April/May earlier this year. I had partly finished the project and got side tracked onto other activities.

The image contains objects 94 (top of image) and 95 (bottom of image) from the RCW catalogue of nebulae. There are some excellent resources available on the Galaxy Map site which includes objects from the RCW, Gum and Sharpless catalogues which I found quite useful in planning this, and other, imaging sessions. Worth looking at if you haven't been there before.

I was having some equipment issues during the capture of this data which will be evident to pixel peepers who dive in and look closely so please be kind. These objects come out very red which is not surprising given the strength of the Ha signal. There was minimal RGBL data in the nebula itself.

The challenge with this object is to see what myriad of shapes we can find lurking therein. Shapes that I think I can see include:

* An elderly man with a strong jaw, long nose and steam coming out of his mouth;
* A thumb and forefinger in a 'OK' sign; or
* You choose.

Details:
Tak TSA 120 @ F5.6, QSI683.
R = 26 @ 300s
G = 31 @ 300s
B = 26 @ 300s
Ha = 20 @ 1800s

Image capture with SGPro, processing in Pixinsight 1.8.5

A very nice Ha combine there, Rodney. Interesting object too.

Thanks Rick. The NBRGBCombination script worked ok for me on this image. It did benefit from massaging the Ha data first and in the end I used the Ha channel for luminance to try and get some detail in the nebula.

That's delicious, Rodney. Most impressive. We've never seen these before. Interesting and technically excellent.

We see the old chappie with the steam. Reminds us of the grumpy old opera goer in Sesame Street. But his nose doubles as the right index finger of a celestial hand about to press the "Smite" button on its laptop. The other fingers are curled. The forearm constitutes the top left border of the nebulosity, and the upper arm constitutes the top right border.

You've captured a lovely sharply defined sinuous dark nebula that is a bit reminiscent of a cross between a lily stem and a y-chromosome carrier.

The stars give much interest to the colour.

Love it!

Thanks MnT. I knew that I could rely on you to go exploring for more shapes lurking about.

Nicely done Rodney. The RCW is certainly a very fertile area to explore.

Cheers

Nice result Rodney on a seldom imaged object. I see the old mans profile and Mikes celestial button pressing finger too...actually, there are a few other things in this one too

Thanks Mike. I will resist asking what the other things are that you see therein

I hope to get to lay under clouds and then sit around a fire watching the flames with MBJ some day...we would have so much fun ...he sees even more than I do but.. I could learn
