Helix in one night

Not sure why I bothered with this as it's probably a pointless exercise. I was curious to see how an unbinned image would look using my STXL16200 and 36.8 cm F9 RCOS scope. Such a setup of course is grossly over sampled. The result was better than I expected and it's quite a reasonable Helix nebula if a bit noisy. The seeing was only average.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks. I do use some parts of PI but I don't use it exclusively.

Thanks Rick. I'll have a look at those options. One of these days I'll probably convert to PI completely but not yet.

I think it was worth trying. It's pretty good and I would say keep grabbing the data.

Thanks M&T. I'm still working on it and got some more data last night. I was going to see how it looked in Hubble palette but determined that was a waste of time because the amount of SII emission was essentially zero so in the end I got a few hours more OIII. When the moon goes away I'll add RGB stars.

Cheers

Steve

Really nice Steve. A tighter view but you've captured the nice detail in the central nebulosity itself.

Thanks Colin. I'm contemplating blending in some 2x2 Ha to see what effect that has.
