K1-12

This is a faint planetary nebula in Puppis that I was requested to image. The K stands for Kohoutek (remember his comet in the seventies?). Nothing much to look at I guess but something has to be first for the year.

Cheers

Steve

It's very cute. I like it. There must be a few of these up there you could hunt with your long F/L.

Nice colour structural details despite tiny size.

A charming little PN and you have the right scope to give it a shot.

Thanks Bill. I didn't notice the resemblance to M27 until you pointed it out.

Thanks Rodney. Yes the long focal length does help with these little buggers.

Nice one Steve!
I like these small PNs but this one is a bit too faint for me - you have done well. There are hundreds of these up there.

Tony.

Thanks Tony. Yes you could spend a whole lifetime imaging these things and probably still not get through them all.

Interesting little critter, Steve. No hints of a halo?

Cheers,

Thanks guys. It perhaps doesn't have as prominent a dumbbell shape but it's pretty close.

Yes it's quite a pretty thing isn't it. Initially I thought I could see hints of a halo but when I collected more data there was nothing there. Sakib thought that it was an unlikely candidate anyway.

Thanks Mike. The lack of a halo didn't bother me too much.
