Yes, it was hot here, cooking outside to keep temps down. Air con has been on for 2 days and a night. It is now starting to get a bit tropical, overcast, warm and wet.

And if the climate forecasters are correct it can only get hotter.
I remember being north of Adelaide in 1982 heading to Peterborough and the
Temp then was 45°C.
I couldn not touch the body of my car as it was really to hot to touch, burnt my bare chest on the hot metal as I was getting out.
No chance of me ever being in SA in the Summer time ever again.
that goes for WA as well.
Queensland maybe humid, but where I live i can bare the hot days when they happen.
Keep cool guys and girls of SA.
Cheers

It certainly was a scorcher on the 25th, but spare a thought for the small rural communities (and there were quite a few, particularly on the Eyre peninsular) that suffered power blackouts - not only would the heat have been very unpleasant, you (generally) also lose power to the fridge...Yikes! Warm beer & off prawns!

Another heatwave announced for Sydney this week. With global warming this is only going to increase in frequency and severity. What are we doing to the planet.

What a load of BS. Summer weather in Australia in summer, who would've thunk it. Jesus. By far the stupidest thing I read this month. By far. I bet you would peddle the same unsubstantiated garbage myth if there was a week of cloudy 22C days in the forecast. These days, every thunderstorm, cyclone, rainfall, hot spell, cold spell, cloud formation, drop of rain, breath of wind is caused by "global warming" as peddled by our braindead hyper-sensationalist leftist media and parliament. Sadly, in communism/marxism, brainwashing the uninformed works a treat. But yeah, gotta keep the hard-left know it all academics in a job huh. What absolute tripe. The climate of a swirling, whirling, dynamic planet must confirm to within 0.001 of the averages, otherwise it's catastrophic global warming. Nice little spin machine for the govt paid academics and an excuse to screw the public like in SA and in Vic, kill thousands of jobs and make electricity unaffordable in the name of this mad green global warming religion and feel good green vote-buying politics. Then our piece of crap greenleft govts and their overpaid henchmen have the gall to sook about the unemployment rate after putting thousands of innocent people out of work without any warning in the name of their green mantra here in SA (and Vic next year). Filthy pieces of leftist labor socialist scum
A bloody convenient scam for our piece of crap opportunistic politicians. A pox on their houses.

I have to add that i have had remarkable Seeing conditions at my place since Christmas eve, so i am delighted with my local conditions. Sure its hot during the day but the northeasterly sea breeze has kept it from getting too bad. And the nights have been anazing once the wind dies down after 10pm. I feel bad for the folks in SA but i will take the great conditions here.

I agree with you pgc hunter, the headline was "since 1945" so where was global warming then??(other than a couple of spots over Japan) I can remember in Sydney as a kid in the early 60's of temps of 105 deg/40 odd deg, every now & then earth wobbles a bit closer to the sun, sometimes a bit further away, called it an iceage, just an excuse for a tax grab, we could certainly do a bit more about pollution, but volcano's have been doing it forever, so what's the real answer normal or our fault??

Its this kind of response that makes you wonder about the intellectual capacity of some people...
Scientists around the world are in agreement that this is man made, current data and the fossil record overwhelmingly support the contention that climate change is real, accelerating, and we are responsible. Yet, people who should know better, continue to stick their heads where the sun don't shine. What do you do?
The best you can come up with is tiresome, boring "green bashing" and short sighted whining about job losses... As far as job losses are concerned, you ain't seen NOTHIN YET. Just have a look at the projected impact that a dead Barrier Reef and devastated agricultural production will have on jobs.
Your comments are little more than right winged, ill informed, dogma driven tripe....

Ahh, thankfully it's all back to normal now - last night we had some more winds of up to 120kph in the hills and lots of rain. My son found the neighbours' cast iron outdoor table on the roof of his garden shed - might have been the reason why his shed was still there .

Say it with meaning pgch.
Lost your job lately as you seem pricklier than a doublegee coated lolĺipop?
I dont mind the coming green revolution. At least for automobiles. I wouldnt mind not getting covered in fumes everytime I stand at a busy intersection. Might actually be able to have the windows down on hot days in heavy traffic. No traffic noise (especially the quintessential noise maker the obnoxious late night harley rider)
We have a climate with enough sun and wind to power probably the world. At least geraldton does.
So why not use it and create green tech jobs etc and a breathable atmosphere even if it doesn't have an effect on temps?

This thread underscores the reason I have fallen out of love with democracy...
For those of you with 3 or more kids + cat &/or dog... seriously - try putting the direction of your household's financial resources up for a majority vote and post the video of the ensuing chaos on you-choob. it will be fascinating to watch....... as compelling as a slow motion train wreck, I'd wager.
Oh... jfc... they just did that with Donald Chump. (not to mention the string of muppets preceding him)

Call me churlish if you will.... but I had a little chuckle to myself knowing that Sab (and his generation) will be the primary beneficiaries of the fruits of their climate change inaction, long after us old timer's have shed our mortal coil.
Remember us Sab... I'm sure you will resonate with us in 30, 40 years or so, when you are faced with the next generation of teenage geniuses that know more than all the science community put together. (apparently)

It seems like common sense to place a fair degree of trust in the scientific community. They often get things wrong but learn from their mistakes and generally show us the way forward.
There's plenty of brainwashing and disinformation in the world but that comes from profit driven corporations which, among other things, may have an interest in discrediting scientists.

What a load bollocks.
Gen X Y and Z are behaving as if the sky is falling when the temp tops 30. It isn't.
It is perfectly normal in the eastern states to have a heatwave over Xmas - NY with temps topping 40 in Sydney - and quite frankly that has NOT happened so far this year. And all I see is a lot of softies whining about how long the aircon is needed. As one who grew up without aircon this is ridiculous.
Yes I agree there is climate change - particularly in the monthly averages and night time temps, but it might not be all bad. For example the rain shadow that existed 20 years ago over Sydney to south coast seems to have gone, and while on average hotter, it has been consistently wetter.
Since when did Alice Springs get 200mm in midsummer, let alone in 1 day ?
