UFO reports please.

I engage in another forum where one can discuss even religion and politics.

There is a section where UFOs are discussed.
Well I said if there were any UFOs astronomers probably would see them or photograph something by accident.

I also said I would ask here if anyone has any recorded report of a UFO ...

Well anything to report.

Any photos?

Any interviews with aliens?

Seriously the proposition has been raised that a survey showed a number of astronomers said they had seen a UFO.

I can't recall anyone here reporting such and I called the survey possibly a lie.

Please chech your observation journals and tell me how many you have seen.

Alex

Alex, my grand total in 30 years of observing is Zero
I would love to see one but no luck so far.

I'm 40 years into this frolic: I've seen strange, odd things in the sky, but all could be rationalised without invoking LGM.

Over 30 odd years I have only ever seen one. Very late in one observing session, probably around 4:00am, a bright star about 20 degrees above the horizon which I had thought was Spica, began moving in a very strange and erratic pattern. It would move vertically a few degrees - say about a handspan, in a very sudden motion. Then horizontally a similar distance, each movement lasting less than a second indicating extraordinary speed.
I drew the attention of my observing partner to this, who said Spica was perfectly still as far as he could see.
I got out my 10x70 binoculars and put the object in the field of view. Steady as a rock. Your mind can play some nasty tricks on you when you are fatigued.
I also see many of the queries of this nature that come into Perth Observatory - and I'm not at all surprised how many of them start with: "Me and my mate were having a few drinks and..."
Cheers,
Andrew.

I'm with you there Andrew.
My first action is to reach for my binoculars which are always close at hand, have a pair permanently based in the car, plus a pair on the table at all times.
Cheers

UFO - Unique Forthcoming Opinion

Hi,
So, to answer your question, the answer is yes, I have seen a UFO!
But I must also say that I have seen an IMO and also an IFO which is important to my answer.
Let's assume that UFO's have to be flying, as in using their own energy/transport system to be called a UFO.
So in most cases, objects seen, start out as a UMO, Unidentified Moving Object. They can at a later time morph to other objects.
The UFO I saw started off as a UMO as we could see in the close distance lights in the sky doing weird things. It then appeared to be 'flying' so it was at that stage a UFO, turns out, it was an idiot in a plane playing tricks with lights off/on.We realised what it was when it flew right over us.Was also in the paper the next day so could have been a UFO for a bit longer until identified had we not worked it out when we saw/heard it.So that now is a IFO even though it was a UFO for a while.
That 'while' in other cases can vary widely. Plus all the other combinations possible,
So, no actual UFO at this point in time for me, cause the one I saw, became identified and it was identified as from this Earth.
So the question within the question is if you have seen an IFO, and it was identified as 'NOT from this Earth', then what happened next....?

Hi Alex,

No sightings as yet. Plenty of satellites, even blinking satellites. Had one go through a field just after an occultation - and I was concentrating so hard that I did not see it at the time, and only picked it up on review.

If I ever did see one, it would be very hard to verify the existence of LGM. The level of evidence acceptable would be high. A photo would not do. Even several photos. I think that some kind of multi-observer report would be needed along with serious levels of ancillary evidence. Like radar traces, images, views from aeroplanes confirming the behaviour of the UFO ... it would be a big task to collate the evidence alone.

But if the LGM were friendly, then it would be much easier. Just turn up with an ABC film crew at the spaceship door, and ask a few questions about reality TV shows they have watched.

Regards,
Tony Barry

UFO's are pretty common, as in UNIDENTIFIED flying objects. People see them all the time, but few take the time to identify them (my plane from Beijing some years back was delayed because of a UFO in the airspace).

What I'm getting at is that just because it's 'unidentified', doesn't immediately mean that it's aliens (which by its very nature would be IDENTIFIED, and therefore NOT a UFO!)

I wonder if the innate, constant movement of the eye (saccades) could have something to do with these type of reported phenomena? Its interesting that you and your buddy saw the same thing differently.

Thank you all very much for your input.
I highly value your individual input.
My proposition is if there were anything to the claims of UFOs being as plentiful as the reports on UFO sites would suggest then astronomers and astrophotographers would be more than likely to have seen or photographed something.
One gentleman at the other site thinks there is plenty of evidence but I am yet to see anything that I could regard as even slightly compelling.
Thanks everyone for your valued reports.
I really do appreciate your help.
Alex

I suspect that's exactly what it was - I was the one whose eyes and brain were playing up, his were fine. Spica never moved! There's a lot of complexity and 'fuzziness' in the way your brain combines the images from each eye.

On the 4th of October 2008 at about 8:30pm I was traveling with my wife along the Yorke Peninsula highway coming from Yorketown and heading toward Port Wakefield.
We saw a bright light that we thought was a car on top of a lookout we had stopped at earlier in the day, when we got closer we lost sight of the light and I said to my wife it could not of been the lookout because we have not even passed the lookout.
A little while later we saw the light again it was ahead of us, at first we thought it was a bright star/planet that we had been seeing near the moon for some days but then I looked and saw the moon and star off to our left. The light was like, perhaps the headlight of a landing plane, but I figured if that were the case and we were looking at a plane front on the light would have gotten closer considering we were both moving at speed toward one another but this light (pale yellow/dull white) was maintaining its distance about a kilometer ahead of us.
I continued to watch the light and slowly we gained on it, I lost sight of it occasionally behind some trees but eventually we found it again, it was off to our left and it was now two lights like the headlights of a car driving along side of us but in the air, I remember thinking that it looked like the headlights of one of the older cars that has the chrome collars behind the headlight giving the appearance of an elongated body behind the light.
After a minute of so it appeared to get further away to the left and then it turned into three lights that formed a perfect triangle (We have planes that turn outside our house in southern Adelaide and they never form the triangle like this) two lights were at the front with one light trailing behind, I don’t think they were separate lights because they stayed together too close.
After a while the light started heading ahead of us and was soon kilometers ahead, there were several colors flashing on the object including blue white and red. We watched and after several minutes the object came back toward us, it’s brightness was fluctuating, sometimes bright sometimes dull and sometimes the multi colors flashing it came back and we stopped the car, I opened the window to listen but there was no sound, we continued on our way and I kept watch out of the back window, after a while it got pretty dull I assume due to the distance we were from it but I could still see the flashing. I remember onetime looking out of the rear window seeing another similar light above and to the left of the first one and then the first one stopped flashing and the second one started flashing.
After that we lost sight of it in the lights of the city.

Alex.. I think it might be useful to draw the distinction between the popular UFO phenomena (if there actually is such a thing) and the possibility of (space fairing) alien life.

The subject naturally appeals to a certain demographic of people and is championed by charlatans of the ilk of David Icke, Alex Jones, et al)... That's one side of the coin.

There are however, a number of people who have held positions requiring a high degree of credibility that claim that there is some element of truth to the assertion.

Edgar Mitchell, Apollo 14 lunar module pilot is one of them
as is Paul Hellyer, former Canadian minister for defence.

There are also quite a few retired people who held high positions in the military and intelligence communities that have come forward as well.
(search for the disclosure project)

That's not to say that there is any substance to it.
What can be said is that the following statement: 'no-one of any public standing has claimed that UFO's are real' is actually false.

One statement I can confidently make which is undeniably true is that governments and the mainstream media routinely deceive the general population as a matter of course.... so, irrespective of where the truth of the matter lies, you ain't going to hear it from the lips of Obama on CNN.

It's also a truism that the act of posing questions (or assertions) which become inconvenient wrt) the establishment (and it's narrative) carries with it the risk of being stigmatised with the (deliberately) weaponised term: 'conspiracy theorist' (or worse)

I personally have never seen a little green man (outside of a St Pat's day celebration) ... but if I had, do you think I would actually admit to it on this forum?
Would you?

There is also a logical fallacy pertaining to the subject that I am inclined to point out in the form of an allegory:
I used to live near an air base, I also have two immediate relatives who worked for the RAAF, and I built countless model airplanes as a kid) .. Yet I, nor anyone else I know, has ever seen a Russian, Sukhoi T-50, fighter jet. Does this mean that claims of the T50's existence are false?

As for UFO's... personally, I have no idea either way.

There certainly are; when I read about how our eyes and brains work and how susceptible they are to perceiving things that aren't there (ie, optical illusions) I'm amazed we see anything at all!!

I was communicating with a British Airways flight from Sydney to Nadi in the early 70's who reported a UFO at his level, same speed and formatting with him. The captain was dead set crapping himself. He asked if we had any traffic in the area and I knew that there was not. I had other aircraft especially when I was stationed in Darwin reporting "very strange aircraft in their vicinity" and all of a sudden flying away at incredible speeds.
Another case happened one night when I was on the doggo, and the military guy called me up to see if there was any traffic south of Darwin, being around 3am, absolutely nothing was flying, or at least that was what was supposed to be happening, he advised me he had a paint that had showed up around Port Keats, and disappeared off radar approx. 200nm nw of Darwin. He calculated the ground speed of this paint as being around 2,400kts. The blackbird immediately came to mind but was dismissed by the RAAF ATC as they would have known about it.

Nought, Nil, Zip, Nada ... a doughnut.

Hi Alex,

I prefer to refer to them as unidentified aerial sightings as, for the most part, there is no evidence that they are being "flown", nor that it is an "object" -- it's just an unidentified light in the sky really.

After 45-odd years of watching the night sky I've seen: nought, nil, zip, nada, a goose-egg, a doughnut ... nothing that could be called a "UFO" or even an unidentified light in the sky. Obviously, I'm not looking very well because so many so-called UFO hunters seem to see them every other day.

Best,

L.

Les, A mad keen UFO "expert" once said to me at a Sunshine coast UFO meeting, you will never see a UFO because you don't believe.
That sounds like a religious calling to me.
