Hi all took this last night at 2 am, stacked 600 frames, processed in photoshop. Focus is reasonable and seeing was 6/10. I could see detail as the avi was being taken.

The others will probably say add red, Filter this and that, go up 10 points on the doo-hicky, etc.

But I like it how it is. Good Job.

I am not sure if the other Ken is right about going up 10 points on the doo-hicky, if that is that just below the wing ding it should be 9 points

Now I think about it, (it's not turning), How come the rotation of planets doesn't blur the image?

I understand tracking for Astrophotography, but not rotation. It should blur!

How did you focus? have you tried the heartman mask or something similar to focus?

That is because I have only taken the avi for 60 seconds. That is the longest you should go with Jupiter. Saturn can be taken longer because cloud details is not as evident as on Jupiter.

Paul,

If I was to try a hand held photo, does that mean I would have to try hold the camera still for 60 seconds? or is a 1 or 2 second exposure long enough? (Jupiter and Saturn I mean)

Probably the wrong section to ask this in.

Always focus with a hartman mask, but it can be difficult on the screen.

Ken these frames are 1/25 of a second long and then stacked on top of one another. You might try starting at this length of exposure.

I enjoyed taking my first shots with my daughters camera but I know I wouldn't do well with the same camera. It has a fixed frame speed.

I will look for one with speed settings.

I do like your Jupiter shot at the start of the thread. 2nd one is probably more true to the real colour though.

Nice shots Paul. I like the detail in the first and the colour in the second. Seems to be quite a bit of blue, green and red colour around the limbs. Did you try a colour shift at all when waveletting? Maybe a slight brightness and contrast adjustment to even the colour out.

I know what its like. I'm having difficulty with just that problem at the moment which is why I've not posted any. Your's are leaving mine for dead. (for the moment

Paul I did colour shifting when waveletting and plenty of adjustment to contrast but not brightness. The blue came from the 15 frames a second that I used. It looked a lot worse on the AVI, but I think it is more to do with a combination collimation and camera settings, especially when I am using such a high frame rate. More experimentation to get that perfect shot. I am also concerned about about the grainy nature to the shots. Got to keep the gain down a bit more.

I had a bit of a go at your first image Paul. It's a bit harsh but some of the excess bgr are muted. What's your opinion?

bit harsh like you said paul r. you got more detail in there but at the expense of natural colouring and look.

I was just thinking bout all the picture taking and well... it seems we alter the image so much in processing we might as well be drawing the planets

Paul I think that the shot you have done is a little over processed now. The colours are more intense, but I prefer the first shot. Thanks for trying though.
