Jewel Box and Becrux

Here's NGC4755 Jewel Box cluster and Becrux. A pretty and colourful bunch of stars.

Nice picture.
The only comment is that the white balance is rather blue: Becrux looks like a blue LED.

A very nice photo Troy.

Nice colours and I love the composition.

What camera and lens did you use?

Ross.

I understand what you mean. There is little processing on this - I did a background neutralisation and white balance, then stretched. Nothing was done selectively or on any particular channel to modify that blue. So I think the white balance is ok, it's just that bright star.

I recall Rogelio Bernal Andreo saying once that he gets similar comments on his brighter blue stars, and he put it down to a property of the filters or something. If I recall correctly, he uses the same Astrodons as I do.

I was a bit torn while processing. I know that stars are supposed to be pastel sort of colours, and all but one star in this image are (to my eyes). On the other hand, I like the effect that came out, the bright beacon versus the cluster. Kind of balances in my mind.

Just had a quick look - from SPSP? I'll have to go back and look at your collection there in more detail

A beautiful image, bit of modern art really - would live to see that printed up big- maybe about 2m across in an art gallery.
The infiniteness of space is on show here and imo the colours are terrific

Good one, Troy! I'd run a mile to avoid including a star like that in my FOV but you made it work for you
