Decided I might play with some old data that I had and mapped it out in something a little different for me, Ha OIII SII, gives a nice fiery look It wasn't until I'd finished the process that it dawned on me that I had been working with single 600s subs! I knew I had collected some 5 hours of Ha in the past, wasn't sure on the OIII or SII but I wasn't even using the larger Ha stack!

So, I am quite pleased with how it turned out. I compared it against my previous attempt at processing these particular images which was done in SHO, a LOT cleaner and pushed a bit harder. I'd originally taken these as a proof of concept (looking at what was in the region) but never finished it. Suppose I'll have to do a reprocess of this again with the 5 hours of Ha I have

As a bit of fun I ran it through Instagram processing. Played with some sliders, increased saturation but didn't change the colours. It now looks like someone lit a match to Eta Carina!!

That was a worthwhile exercise, Colin. Causes me to see the region - um - in a new light. Most particularly the dark dusty wedge heading off toward 4 o'clock, I've always seen just as the background to the nebulosity, but you've brought it out as an interesting region in its own right.

I see it as the front half of a black rat, seen from above, facing our left (toward the keyhole region), and further toward 4 o'clock (you can tell we've had kids visiting) the silhouetted beaky face of the bad guy from Minions.

Thanks MnT I do agree, definitely a rat and Minion man in there. Not something I would have ever seen of my own accord

Thanks Mike, got a FWHM of 2.1 before deconvolution (evil word!) but at 1.5"/pixel it is not that difficult

Looks Kinda cool Colin - I agree it's better to break the rules occasionally and create something different and see if you like it!

That is one of the reasons I have grown to enjoy narrowband, it has far more artistic license than LRGB I actually preferred it without doing a colour calibration. Just combined them and then set the black balance, the faint SII doesn't even get a show through all of the Ha and OIII.

That's the CHFT palette, Colin. I don't find it as versatile as Hubble palette but it certainly produces an interesting result in this case. Nicely done

Thanks Rick, I figured it would have a palette name but I had no idea what it was. Not one that gets seen too often I must admit. Mine is not quite an accurate representation however as the SII data is not very well represented (purple should be stronger around the edges). I just like watching Eta Carina burn

Good work Colin, the instagram version I like the best, it makes everything 3D like. Like we are looking over a cliff to the central core which is also raised up.

NB is the best for letting your hair down and go for it ( not that I have tried yet).

I did try to push it that far on the full res version but it turns out BAD! Looks fine when postage stamp though
