Big glob

My wife asked last night: "why are you still inside?"

"It's cloudy...again".

"No it's cleared up".

The seeing was OK, new moon and it was clear! What are the chances???!

Omega was nicely placed while I waited for the optics to settle, hence a quick
grab of this perennial favourite seemed appropriate.

Sublime shot, Peter. You're not imaging enough these days, we want to see more.

Thanks. It's a sublime 'scope...I'm really only starting to tap into its capabilities.

Thanks gentlemen....Omega is a bright and easy subject to be sure, but putting it into perspective, my 4" Taka would have taken 1 hour in each channel to get the same flux.

Star by star, very similar to your shot from about June 2015, in terms of sharpness, resolution, and number of stars shown. The only obvious difference that I can see is that this time you've been subtler with the colour.

Both are excellent, and a pleasure to see.

Nice to know that what is up there doesn't change so very quickly.

The resolution is fantastic! Just needs some deeper RGB for better star colour to complement the nice L

Good stuff Peter. Do more!

But how come your seeing was okay and my seeing was ABSOLUTE C**P!!! Please explain? Spent 7 hours rejecting sub after sub and watching the guide star boil away into oblivion and somtimes morph into 4 separate stars.

Ta, but more saturated doesn't always mean "better" (= don't think I need revisit this one for a bit . )

Ah yes, my RCOS data reworked about a year ago...I had no idea my images would subject to such close scrutiny! ... however in this current set, it was a literally a quick and easy grab.

Looking at both in high res...the new scope seems to have tighter profiles across a wider field....but who really knows...seeing can affect so much!

Yes...seeing can do that!

Suffice to say...I would do more.... it was frustrating to look at beautifully clear all sky camera images recently from the other side of the globe

Great resolution Peter. Tiny stars.

If you had a fully automated remote system you could image from the other side of the world.

Thanks Paul...yep got one of those (posted a remotely captured image from the USA some years ago) ...problem is... serious lag via hotel internet links
while still having civil relationships with spouse-person on one's return, should the comms fail in the middle of the night

Looks very good but I can't really tell the quality of the image from that mega scope from the size of this file, did I miss a link to a high res one?

Cheers

Ta.

You haven't missed a link

Sadly, some people rip-off/plagiarise images, so I don't do "high-res" online.

Fantastic resolution and depth Peter.
The RC16 certainly eats up those photons.
