NGC 3576+3603 (stage 1 out of 3)

Hi all,

It is a great feeling to be imaging again...

Sharing initial data from my new project, twenty 10-minute subs in Ha. Awaiting clear skies to add more Ha data and also S2 and O3. Minimal processing - a touch TGV denoise followed by a subtle Local Histogram Equalisation on the brighter areas and finished with the Dark Structure Enhance script.

High Res: http://www.astrobin.com/full/243134/0/
Full Res: http://www.astrobin.com/full/243134/0/?real=&mod=

Thank you for looking.

Suavi

EDIT: More data added (7.5 hrs of Ha in total)

You did that with a 4" scope in just over 3 hours under full moon! Wow, we're amazed on all three counts. Wonderful.

The unusual orientation casts it in a different light.

Can't wait to see the NB tri-colour version.

Very nice Suavi - er, Don't take this the wrong way but either she's upside down or I'm standing on my head!
Great details there. I'm hoping for a clear moonless night to finish mine off soon as well

Thank you Mike & Trish, it was your image that instantly inspired me to have a go at this object

My next upgrades will hopefully be moving out out the city and getting a quality mount.

Upside down? Well, I was always considered a black sheep in my family...

Thank you Russell, I would like to do 15-minute subs but it is quite tricky to consistently get accurate polar alignment with the narrow slice of the sky I have unobstructed...field rotation is already noticeable in the bottom right corner..

Thanks Andy

I may flip the final image by 180 deg - I definitely do not want to give anyone a headache

Excellent start! Great detail and beautiful tonal quality. Even when I'm standing on my head!

Cheers, Marcus

Thank you Rodney, Marc, Marcus and Russell

Last night I managed to capture more data and did a quick comparison as for the amount of detail gained with longer integration.

The attached image shows, from left to right, auto-stretched area in a single 10-minute sub, stack of 20 subs and 45 subs. St. dev was respectively 36.8, 8.8 and 6.7. Clearly more faint stuff shows up with longer integration.

I think now I have sufficient Ha data, so time to move onto capturing O3 and S2 data.

Thank you all for your encouragement.

Suavi

A fair bit of faint stuff in there Sauvi, well done You can certainly see the difference that more integration time makes to an image. Quite amazing the difference between the single and the 45x

Thank you Colin. Yeah - there does not seem to be much happening in this area in a single sub LOL

I have just uploaded a new image with added data to Astrobin.

Also, I started collecting O3 data this evening, but unfortunately clouds rolled in...

Got first few O3 subs. Nice to see more detail showing up as integration time increases. On the right is a crop from a sigle auto-stretched 10-minute O3 sub, while on the left is a stack of five of them. Clearly, I will need heaps more...

Thank you for looking

Wow its intersting to see how the detail builds up in your OIII.
Are you going to be going for a typical hubble palette blend?
The HA is looking very nice and detailed so far.
