Finally, a new (finished) image!! I'd have knocked it over sooner with more data but we had 250mm rain here in Jan!!

Off the beaten track in Orion, it's often overlooked because, well, it's not the most photogenic object in Orion plus it's quite faint. To compensate I paid attention to framing and teasing out the colour nuances.

60% resolution (not much fine detail in this field to warrant full res)

Cheers, Marcus

You must have some SCUBA gear, as I got sick of wading out to the Obs in January...

Nice one

Very nice Marcus. I like the colour and texture. The rain seems to have diminished in Canberra a bit. Hopefully you will get better conditions too.

Cheers

A nice looking image there Marcus. Yes it has been rather wet and then often cloudy when its not raining.

Lovely framing with the bright stars surrounding it.

Greg.

Hi, Marcus,

Your machine produces most beautiful stars. (By comparison, our 20" PlaneWave tends to produce uninspiring sequins or discs).

The colours are also beautiful.

Best,
Mike

Cheers Peter. I've just started a session so I'm expecting the clouds to roll in any time!

Thanks Andy! I am. I wanted to go off the beaten track and do a difficult target. If it hadn't been for the weather and my eagerness to get an image under my belt I'd have gathered some more data. I'm happy with the result though.

Thanks Greg. Yes I think I nailed the composition even if I do say so myself! It was a tough one to process though.

Thanks very much Mike! Seeing was only average here (2.2 FWHM on my combined Lum) but I always do a bit of decon to knock off a few tenths of an arcsec.

Very nice, Marcus! That's the first image of NGC 1788 that I've seen that clearly shows the fox face. I was previously wondering where the name came from.

Cheers,
Rick.

I really like the detail Marcus. That nebula does looks a like the tulip neb in the northern hemisphere.

Quite a special image Marcus. The higher resolution image works great and provides a nice journey around the field of view.

Thanks Rick! I wish I could make out the fox face - I guess I don't have the pictographic imagination others have!

Thanks Paul! I did some adjustments based on your email feedback - should be a bit better now.

Hehe ... well, if there's nothing to see at full res (because this is not a megadata image, seeing was only average and the subject is relatively "featureless" at the fine level) why bother? This is rare for me but I'm pretty sure the current project will again see full res posts - even if it's just to see small stars and background galaxies.

It feels very good! Just finished LRGB for another target as well. NB coming soon too (if I can keep working around camera icing problems and random comms failures! )

If I sit back far enough from my laptop and tilt my head from side to side, the fox face does pop out after a while. Nicely done Greg

Well done Marcus. Nice shot. That's commitment between the rain and heat to gather enough data to put some RGB together.
