NGC6888 - Crescent Nebula NB bi-colour

This data was sitting around for a while until somebody on the PI forum asked about colourizing NB bi-colour data so I used it as an example.

Would have been nice to have better data (at the time we were having guiding issues and doing short NB subs) and also some RGB stars. Still, it's a cool object and interesting at long focal length.

Captured at SRO, 27 May - 29 July, 2015

Scope: Ceravolo C300 @ f/9 = 2720mm FL
Mount: AP1100
Camera: FLI PL16803
Focuser: Atlas
Filters: Astrodon
Guiding: Lodestar II / Tak guide scope
Image scale: 0.68 arcsec/pixel
Exposures: 13x1800s + 34x600s Ha, 24x1800s + 24x600s Oiii
Processing: PixInsight 1.8

Acquisition credit: John Kasianowicz, Daniele Malleo, Leonardo Orazi, Rob Pfile, Rick Stevenson and Jerry Yesavage.

Processing credit: Rick Stevenson

High res at Astrobin: http://www.astrobin.com/full/221473/0/

Cheers,
Rick.

that's a stunning image Rick Must look up the forum to find out how you got something with that sort of complex colour palette from bicolour data - impressive

That's a great image Rick. Beautiful colour and detail.
Just a little question... if you call 30minute subs short, what is a long sub!?

Cracking detail Rick. Nice colour too. Pity we cannot image it from down here. I would think it is fairly faint too?

Thanks, Ray! I used the brightness of the Ha and Oiii to modulate the hue. Just a cheap trick really but I like the effect on some bi-colour images.

Thanks, Scotty. It was the 600 sec subs that didn't add a lot of SNR. For a while we had guiding problems (turns out that encoders aren't always as wonderful as you would hope.)

Ta, Rod! My usual understated processing

Ta, Paul! It gets to 24 degrees above the horizon here in Brisneyland which is not conducive to good imaging. Even worse for you. Ozstronomer and a few others have managed decent captures from SE Qld. It's reasonably bright in Ha but the Oiii shell is quite dim.

...those thin bright worms are trying veeery hard to reveal themselves to me buuut you have skiiiiirted the edge of over waveletted/sharpened veeery nicely Ricki

I agree with Houghy, definitely looks like a brain!

Wow - some serious commitment here for such a northerly subject! Very cool with the OIII outer shell - really adds to the 3D effect.

Thanks, Mike! Great to know that my light decon and wavelet sharpening has passed the most stringent tests and is fit for human consumption with only trace amounts of worms

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks, Troy. I did cheat and use a scope I share at SRO in California

A delightful image and splendid colours Rick; it is hard to believe that this data comes only from 2 filters.

Your Colour Mask script is clearly a very effective tool in manipulating colours and it should be included in the standard scripts in PI

Thanks, Suavi. I have some changes to make to the script before Juan will bless it. I should get them done but I know it's going to make additional work for Warren Keller who is including ColorMask in his PI book.
