I sent an OAG to a guy in NSW well over a month ago. No show still!!!! and now I cannot find my receipt because I had ASSUMED it had been delivered and threw it away!
I have contacted his nearest PO in the hopes they have an errant parcel with his name on it.

and the race is on...
Item inbound from OPT using USPS ordered on 9th September. Just left Kingsford airport so presumably in the hands of auspost. Only needs to get to a parcel locker 20 k away.
Item inbound from Germany via DHL. Again ordered on 9th September, same time in fact and last seen stuck in the export department at the airport in Germany. Tracking system currently down.
Where should the wise money go? Auspost or DHL even with possible custom clearance duty charges..?

2 items - separate sellers - sent USPS Express Mail International - small ransom in fees. Same day. Very similar size and weight. One track says delivery Wednesday, the other delivery Sunday next week.
Be interesting how long it takes Aus Post.

Update:
USPS have tracked their item to Aus at which point Auspost have the item as being untrackable.
Alarmingly the DHL item is still in Germany with the latest update being that the parcel will be handed over to Auspost at the destination country..sob

It is if someone was running Aust Post down such that selling it would seem like a good option. But when sold could it ever pick up?
It's near the time someone will suggest selling it.
What will the future hold.
And all will understand selling is a great idea even if the price is way low.

I have $4.5K worth of server parts on a star track courier truck.
They've been in Brisbane, on that truck for 3 days.
Austpost recently bought star track.

Can't say I have had problems with Aus Post. Maybe I don't buy and sell enough
When I do sell I use Express Post...a bit more expensive, not by much....

My US EMS update - BOTH packages sent same day in US, same EMS service, BOTH arrived in Australia on Monday (same flight no doubt).
To date, Australia Post has NOT delivered my EXPRESS MAIL SERVICE packages, though one is due for delivery today - 3 days late already - and the other package still shows as in SYDNEY.
Inept. The Yanks lived up to their EMS guarantee, and now Aus Post drops the ball - I hope when my Yank friend lodges for refund that USPS charges Aus Post for it, seeing USPS delivered, but Aus Post could NOT.

An item that I sold to a chap on here went missing just recently for a few days, and whether it was coincidence or not I'll never know, but within an hour of my call their 131318#1#1 number, I received an email saying the item was on the truck for delivery today, followed by a 'delivered' email ten minutes later. Finally I received confirmation from the purchaser.
So all's well that ends well, I'm grateful for that. But exactly where it had been hiding for a week, that they managed to find it in about ten minutes is a bit baffling!
Then today, I got the automated follow-up survey call...
"Based on your recent call to (switch to a different voice - 'ALEX') from our (switch to a different voice - 'QUEENSLAND') branch, how likely are you to recommend Australia Post to a family member or friend? Where 0 is not at all and 10 is extremely likely.
I mean, what am I gonna say? No I'm gonna recommend all my friends take their letters to the freakin' butchers to post!?! W-nkers!
Just for the sake of playing along, I waited til the end when the voice goes quiet, and said '7'.
The voice waits a few moments before repeating the entire message as above.
This time, still hanging in there for some reason, I say '6'. Same delay. I say '5', - nothing. '4' - we don't seem to have detected an answer yet. ANOTHER REPEAT of entire message.
Slam the phone down.
I mean wtf !!! Are these guys serious?
The girl from optus called me yesterday to tell me I might be eligible for a promotion. Ooooo CEO here I come
I say to her, sorry to disappoint but I'm driving and I don't wanna cop a fine. Bye. Slam!
And then today, I get the sms from bl**dy optus asking me how, based on my conversation with whatever-her-name-was yesterday, how would I rate...?
These guys REALLY p**s me off with their stoopid surveys.
Anyway, have a nice days chaps, that's all I wanted to say

So I sent a lodestar to England for repair and I paid the extra money so I could track it. Three weeks later it was still listed as "In transit to destination" (ie to England)so I filed a "Where is my parcel?" query. Later that day there was a knock on the door. My lodestar had been duly delivered, repaired and sent back. Next day I got an email from AP saying they would do their best to locate my parcel by making enquiries of the Royal Mail. Several days later I got a follow up email asking if I was satisfied with their previous response. What a bunch of clowns!

I got my stuff on Friday arvo. They hadn't lost a box they'd lost a pallet.
Not sure how you lose a pallet for 3 days, but the wholesalers got the pallet and I got my box of bits and I got my hand out to the end user for cash.
I sent my wheel off to England for repair. Took 7 months to get it back so I sold the farm after that. PITA.

Aust Post needs help.
There is no profit in letters anymore because of the net which is a good reason to sell.
However the net drives the business of parcel delivery making parcel delivery a prime target for capital.
And yet our Aussie Post has problems..problems that can only be solved by selling it to the owners of capital.
Why would they want such a dud asset.
To hear complaints and lose money.
No to fix it and make a bundle.
After the next election it will be sold and the public will endorse the move.
After all we here have suffered their incompetence for a long time and happily support the sale... Pity it can't be fixed so we own a profitable asset.

To be perfectly fair and honest with Aus Post, I have only had issues with them for the past 2 years. Prior to that, I found them to be very capable and good service. Now... utterly useless. Contractors are most of the problem I feel.
Yes, I too believe Aus Post will be the next asset to be raped and pilaged on the stock market.

I think the issues with Australia Post stem from a few things. Firstly, over the past 20 years or so, their customer base for letter delivery has been eaten away by use of email. As an example, many years ago we thought about moving, looked at a few properties and were subsequently targeted by letters from real estate agents, now we get email updates. Secondly, their customer base for parcel delivery has been reduced because of online purchasing and consequent use of couriers such as Startrack, TNT etc. Thirdly, and this is a guess on my part, they have a charter that compels them to offer a minimum service level. Economies of scale come into play. It takes the same basic local infrastructure to deliver 1000 deliveries a week as it does to deliver 5000 deliveries a week. You still need a depot, you still need a postie. As a result Australia Post has cut costs at the support level such as the major sorting depots and tracking. Plus they have, I suspect, been starved of funds to automate more processes so are possibly more labour intensive than their competitors. I admit that the last few sentences are conjecture on my part, but plausible I think.
My local Australia Post contractor is great! They know I do shift work. If I am expecting a parcel that needs a signature I leave a post-it note on the door asking them to leave the parcel somewhere safe, power box, lean over the fence and leave it on the pool box etc.
Just my thoughts....
Just a bit of comment on service. A few years ago I shipped over a few things from the UK from a deceased estate, nothing valuable, just sentimental stuff. Came via DHL. I stuffed up paperwork at UK end. Phone call from DHL in Brisbane asking me to come to the old international terminal at Brisbane airport with the following documents......park in loading zone, security know I will be there. DHL had redone my paperwork with the correct customs codes and forms, copied and witnessed my documents while I was there, cleared customs that afternoon. No extra charges. Australia Post doing that? I suspect not!

Used to be like that for me too Richard, BUT now Aus Post has a policy of needing the package marked "Permission to Leave", otherwise they WILL card it - up here at least anyway. I had a similar deal with my local contractor (who is a great bloke and has an 8" Dob ), but he now cannot do it.
All the courier companies DO know to leave my stuff in a certain secure location though - Pack n Send guy will take it to his home for me to collect after hours, or will even drop it off on his way home if I will be home.
