Reprocessed M17 NB - "Original HST Recipe"

Hi folks,

Begging your indulgence, following your feedback I've reprocessed this data from scratch using a combination of Startools and PS. I've toned down the drama filter to achieve a more pleasing balance between aesthetics and technique.

Quite impressed by Startools stretch, sharpening and NR functions.

4hrs Ha, 3hrs O3 and 4hrs S2 20min subs with average seeing, Hubble palatte

High res here http://www.astrobin.com/full/204450/B/

Constructive criticism and feedback is always welcome and helpful.

Cheers

Andy

Thanks Pluto, started life as HST but I just can't do green on this one! So the 'ol selective colour got a workout again in PS.

I like this too. I was not keen on the other image presentation but think this one is well balanced with good detail.

Cheers Paul, It's no secret that my artistic and aesthetically driven inner beast sometimes wins in competion with my mild mannered, still relatively inexperienced, technical side. Hopefully this version has equal contributions from both. Thanks for the feedback, much appreciated.

I like this one more than your previuos processing. I dont know why, but this one looks sharper too.

I like this a lot Andy - nothing to critique here. Good depth with nuanced and pleasing-to-the-eye colours. Nice work!

Cheers, Marcus

Thanks Geert, This time around I made a separate Luminosity layer using the combined Ha/O3/S2 data, which was processed and sharpened in Startools. It's made a considerable difference to the overall result.

Here's yet another update on the Lum layer as I learn more about the functions of the contrast, sharpen & HDR modules.

This version really brings out the detail in and around the core, looks lovely. Though it is interesting to see some extra detail in areas in the original processing that are not evident in this version. Hard to find the balance point!
