Just got back from CWAS.

It was great to see many familiar faces plus quite a few new ones on the awards night. Congrats to Troy for his well deserved overall win

David was in fine form, providing as usual very insightful commentary on the various entries along with a few tweaks to various images to make them a little more soothing to his eye ... It's quite a coup for CWAS to have this living legend time and again provide his knowledge and stewardship.

Though I don't normally attend the conference, with a Keynote address by Noble Laureate Brian Schmidt and presentation by the founder of TWAN Babak Tafreshi made this a compulsory event on my calendar. Both were extremely engaging and informative.

My thanks to CWAS' John Sarkissian for once again doing such a brilliant job in organizing what is surely Australia's premiere astroimaging contest. Thanks also to Canon Australia, who have been a fabulous sponsor and who provided over $15k in prizes

Sounds like a great event. I got sucked into this fascinating hobby after a trip to Parkes a few years ago, a spur of the moment detour on the way home from a "Roar and Snore" at Dubbo Zoo with the highlight being the exhibition of winners of the Malins for that year.

Congrats to all those shortlisted and the winners of course.

I had a great time at the CWAS astrofest/Malin Awards this year. The speakers were excellent and it was good to meet many of the IIS-ers in person.

Although I already congratulated most of you in person, well done to Troy, Peter, Phil, Andy and Alex for your well-deserved wins.

For those who don't know me I'm in Brad's second-last picture with David Malin standing in front of my entry.
To get the photo-editor's pick for my section was an unexpected bonus.

David Malin showed at least one of your HC images on the night and of course it was truly superb.
