For Sale: Meade ETX125EC and LX90

Hello all,

Aperture bug has bitten me (well not quite). I would like to sell these two telescopes to get a larger or better quality one (e.g. LX200R Meade or even a refractor - your comments here appreciated although a SCT type would be better for portability)

Now the ETX125 is only about 2 months old. It is in perfect condition and was purchased in Brisbane (I live in Mackay) - it comes with the standard equipment as well as a RS232 adapter for you to plug it into your computer and the tripod.

The LX90 was purchased about 4 weeks ago but is second hand. It is the LX90 EMC version. Again this comes with the tripod, standard lenses and a RS232 cable for the computer. Also it comes with a laser cut carry case for the telescope and lenses and a carry bag for the tripod.

Understandably this one is easier to send than the ETX125. I can pay for postage. With the ETX I still have the box but it isn't the best (it appears that my son used it as a toy car and left it outside in the rain) so I will have to fidn a way of sending it.

Price wise I don't know - make an offer. All up I am hopeful of getting around $3000 all up, but make an offer and don't be shy.

I am thinking about that still Leon - at this moment I am weighing up my options. It may well be that I keep it. I am told by some people that the LX200R would be a waste of time for me as a beginner and is overkill (apparently it is more for astrophotographers).

Be aware that a larger fork mounted SCT is very heavy and could deter you from observing. You could get a 10"-11"SCT ota and put it on a GEM to keep component weights down or you could get a 10" dob and move it on a trolley, keeping your etx to help find things. Take your time deciding on the next purchase so you don't have to change scopes every couple of months - aperture fever/equipment fever can have normally sane people running in circles.

Please keep the Buy, Sell and Trade forum thread on topic specifically for the sale of these items. If asking for advice please start a new thread in Equipment Discussions asking for advice on which scope is right for you.

Rules for the Buy Sell and Trade Forum are stated here.

Good luck with your decision.

Okay fellas - have been Pm'ed

I have offered to send the LX90 to an interested buyer for a look but the offers to date are:

ETX125 - $600
LX90 - $1200

Looks like I may have to let them go at these prices if I can't get much more interest.

Your 2 month old ETX 125 must be worth about double that. I'm thinking about selling mine and I wouldn't be at all happy with $600.
I wouldn't sell an LX90 for $1200 either.
Your initial target of $3k all up seems very realistic to me, just be patient and you'll get a fair price for them.

Look in hingnsight (i think that is spellet correctly) if i bought yor scope i would feel guilty, they are worth much more than that, hang in there and ask what you feel is reasonable.
You will get it, but my offer still stands 800.00 Dollars, and i will pay postage.

The ETC125EC has a good rep, I'd would of expected you get a best buy price between $1,000 - $1,200 ...

Fellas,

Looks like the ETX125 will have to be sold for $600. Really want to move it by Sunday for a new 12" DOB I am getting.

Anyone wishing to go higher?

Edit: The LX90 has been sold sorry.

Meade LX-90

Hi, just wondering what you got for the LX-90 (200mm?). I have one in perfect condition and wondering what I can get for it.

Terry, I put mine on astromart recently for $2000 and it didn't sell. Probably would have sold if I'd dropped it a few hundred, but I'm in no hurry. I dare say it's easier to sell larger apertures that people are upgrading to.
