Centaurus galaxy cluster

G,day all,

Last night was another raging sucsess under the stars. Armed with my 300mm Dob, Observing list's and a bottle of port I was soaking up the photons from all variety of DSO's. I really enjoyed NGC 3918, The Blue Planetery. I can seee how it got is's name tho I think it is closer to Turquoise

What really cought my attention last night was the Centaurus Galaxy Cluster (Abell 3526). Numerous faint fuzzies in conveniently located Centaurus make this a deep sky wonderland. Needless to say I got lost. I was looking for NGC 4696 the clusters brightest member, but after some investigation I realised I recorded NGC's 4743 and nearby 4709 and glimpsed ESO 0323-G019 to the south of 4743. I look forward to spending more time in this part of the sky.

BTW does anyone know of a detailed chart for the Centaurus Cluster.

Cheers Mick

Hi Micko,

I use Cartes du Ciel for my Galaxy hunting. Not all Galaxies are listed in CDC but the Centaurus ones are.

I can see about 15 Centaurus Galaxies in CDC without zooming in too far.

Here is a screenshot of CDC showing 12 Galaxies in just one small part of Centaurus.

Happy hunting!!!
