Named after its resemblance to the flowing dress of a spinning Spanish dancer, I have never imaged this beautiful galaxy in Dorado before... so it was a pleasant bonus and very cool to realise, after I had started this image, that there was in fact a supernova discovered in it on 11 Sept this year and it is still very bright! I thought the two stars very close to the nucleus, as I inspected the early Lum subs, looked too good to be a fluke, so I looked it up and voila! fancy that!
Although quite crap for the RGB, the seeing was good to excellent for much of the Lum soooo, mini data not withstanding, this has allowed some good detail to be revealed (No deconvolution used)

that's a nice one to add to your collection.
It's great to get a supernova - still shining after such a long time!
I like the rainbow colour - sharp diffraction spikes & there are also many other faint galaxies as well.

I was not able to observe the Supernova at it's brightest with the 16" as it is way to close to the nucleus and the 12.5 star close by.
Alex (mentalforastro) was not able to see it in his 18" either.
The bright nucleus overwhelmes it which is a pity.
It is a great galaxy with high power.

That's surprising actually, the SN is some 9" from the core if I am correct, so you would have thought that pretty easy for an 18"...hmm?..as you say, must be the faintness compared to the bright core huh?

Nice dancer Mike. This is one of my favourite galaxies and good to know its around again to add to last years image.
The subtle sweeping arm is particularly nice. I like your stars as well.

Mike the core is mag 12.5 the star close by the SN is 13.5 and the Supernova was 14.5,now 15.2 so the chances of observing the Supernova visually were rather slim,needing a 20" IMHO to be certain of an observation.
When it was at it's brightest I couldn't split it with a 3.5 nagler magx522 in my 16" on a good night.

Its a cracker Mike, your processing is as always appropriate IMO, striking and poppy, I cant see how you could better it with stuffing around with it.

Ahhh I see, the two stars just seemed brighter than that but reflecting now it does seem about right what you say ...seems imaging wins this time round

Glad you like it Lewis and it is probably worthy of anyones top ten galaxies as far as imaging goes, not sure for visual though, I know NGC 1365 is hard to beat in that dept as its two distinct arms can even be seen by some novices through as little as 8" under dark skies
