Nexus 7 2012 Ruined by Lollipop update.

Hi all. My wife's 2012 Nexus 7 recently updated it's OS to Lollipop 5.0 and now its painfully slow to do pretty much anything. A quick search suggests lots of people are having the same problem with this particular model. She can't remember whether it offered an option not to update. She's given up using it!
Any suggestions?

You might be able to put a custom ROM on it instead and perhaps with that drop back a version?

Two suggestions:

1. Do a "Factory Reset" - you'll want to backup your data first, because it will wipe everything, but it will bring it back to "out of the box" condition, running Android 5 Lollipop. It's then pretty simple to restore everything if you have done a backup first.

2. If it's still sluggish, download the KitKat 4.4 Factory Image and restore that. You'll need the Android SDK on a Windows PC to manage the download and installation process.

Let us know how it goes - good luck.

(For the record - Android 5 Lollipop is working great on my Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2013.)

You're probably going to do this anyway, but Julian's suggestions would be the best path to take - use my suggestion as a last resort.

I'm still waiting for the lollipop update for 2012 N7. I could download the factory/OTA image and install it. I can't be bothered and are happy to wait. About 2 month ago I had to do a factory reset on mine as it had become painful slow. What a difference it made to mine running 4.4.4 It was running nice and fast like the day I got it. I'll post up an update when the 5.0 is installed.

Nexus reset! Now sporting Android 5.0. It's not quite as quick as it was but it's certainly usable. We'll see how it goes as it's probably best to keep the OS up to date.
Thanks

Google have just released 5.0.1 to fix a few of the bugs, should be out for in a week or so.

It's back to being unusable. No updates from 5.0 as yet.
Rather annoying!

Nothing to lose so just downloading it all. Yikes!

Well, that was a bit of a nightmare. Endless large downloads of android SDK, OS image, Java updates (two! the first update wasn't up to date!) and various drivers but no success. The SDK download, 870 odd mb's, tried hard but finished with a download error several times. Succeeded eventually.
The adb toolkit just couldn't see the Nexus. Windows 7 64 could see it but, despite trying combinations of everything, the adb toolkit could not.
However, this morning the device downloaded 5.0.2 and so far is working quite well!

I got my update overnight as well, system running well, just hate what they have done with email client and collapsing it into the gmail client. Lucky I have the APKs for email client for the KitKat version, if I can't cope with the change I will add back what they took away.

Google giveth and Google taketh away.
