NB Helix Nebula

I could keep going with this but I don't think it's getting much better from inner Sydney, and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out anyway. I was going for the classic HST palette style and I've chucked in some RGB stars though they haven't worked as well as I'd have liked.

Bigger/better version here:

Any advice on improving would be most appreciated

Ha = 26 x 30 minutes
OIII = 12 x 30 minutes
RGB each 10 x 5 minutes bin 2×2 for stars

Very Nice Hugh! Stars look ok. Your on a roll well done!

I shot just under 5 hrs on the Helix during September/October new moons but it was just too hot for long exposures with DSLR, particularly the Sept subs, they were up around +29c. Pity, as I had very nice guiding, best I've achieved in fact. Oh well, think I'll stick to Hyperstar imaging during summer to keep the subs short.

Can't wait to see your NGC300.

Cheers

Rod

Thanks Rod!
I look forward to seeing what your get with 5hrs with the 60da, or is that with the 6D?

Looks good Hugh and shows that you can still take decent images from congested skies.

Thanks Simon. There's a bit more depth lurking down in the noisy stuff but I've left it there to keep the background relatively smooth. I had hoped this would be a bit deeper considering the exposure times but I think this is basically the limit with my setup from inner Sydney.

No worries Hugh!

I shot it with the 60Da, but it's not post worthy at the moment. I might have to go back process it again without the subs from the warmer night, see if that makes a difference to the lumpy background.
