PanSTARRS in Doradus.

Hi,

Comet C/2012 K1 PanSTARRS posed nicely for a pic in a Doradus galaxy field last night.

I spent a while framing before imaging, very worthwhile!
There's been some great conjunctions this year, which Comet Catcher, ( Kevin ) has diligently imaged for us.

8" F/4 astrograph HEQ pro 5 mount. Orion mini guider.

Unmodded canon 1100D, baader type III coma corrector.

Combination ISO 1600 20 x 2 minute subs.
Stacked in DSS processed in Ps Cs2.
Cheers,
Justin.

Brilliant shot Justin! Very smooth image. I was way too lazy to do a dual stack.

By the way NGC1566 at lower left has a supernova in it but it's very close in to the core and hard to separate.

Thanks Kevin!

Good to know about the supernova, nothing worse than getting excited about a possible new discovery only to find it's already been discovered!

Perfect, exactly where I had it, nice to see a couple got it.

Have you submitted this to APOD? If not you certainly should. This is just epic, well done!

Yep, an irritating and deflating feeling when the cloud rolls in, especially on a one night deal!!

Nice of you to say.
Not quite IPOD standard, there's a few issues with stars in the image.

Cheers,

Justin.

Great composition, Justin. That little spiral at lower left about 8 o'clock is a cracker.

Ha! I haven't heard Grouse used as an appreciative exclamation for decades. Thanks for reminding me this useful word, Bob, it's a really Gas term!

We did get 5mm a few weeks back in a passing storm, but yeah that didn't do much. The fire risk reached the 'catastrophic' level the other day, the 43C days aren't helping. Ah well, we will survive somehow

At least my sensor isn't going to fog up the dew point was -5 the other morning.

Cheers
Jo
