And Win98, both covered by 'Win9x' but were they that much the same? I thought they were quite different but it was a while ago now, my memory of them is not so good, except that I was a big fan of 98 and 98SE

Windows 95 was a shell interface over win 3.1. You could make win 95 look like win 3.1 again with a few clicks of the mouse. Windows 98 was totally revamped and improved version.
Had a real quick peek last night on an ASUS laptop. Very responsive. The start button is back You still can have the buttons/tablet display as per Win8 but it's more of a conventional desktop interface. I've never used 8. I'm still on 7. So I didn't know what to expect. Coming from 7 it was fairly painless to find my way around the navigation. At first glance I liked it a lot.
Tom's Hardware Guide has this on Win10 that shows a series of pictures of the desktop and Start menu.
The Win 8 system resides under the start menu where access to the varios folders resides in Win7 above the Shut Down button. http://www.tomshardware.com/pictures...threshold.html
